emyc468
We're planning a move from the UK to Perth in Feb 2016 and I've started getting quotes from removal companies to ship our stuff. We're looking to bring a car and most of our stuff so been quoted for a 40 foot container. Firstly, can anyone recommend a company as all the ones we've had quotes from are similar in price and it seems I can find both good and bad reviews online. Also how much stuff is it worth bringing? Just things we don't want to part with or bring everything in good condition like fridge, freezer, tumble drier, beds etc? All advice really appreciated! verystormy
Hi and welcome to the forum. Cant recommend a mover as we only brought a few things. But I would recommend that if your items are in good condition you bring everything.
emyc468
Thank you verystormy I've had a look at white goods prices online and they seem comparable with the UK do you think that's accurate?
SJT
We moved here two years ago and brought lots of stuff with us, we also got rid of a lot of stuff and for the love of me I have no idea why, maybe I was panicking about bringing everything. I got rid of an excellent gazebo and foldaway table and chairs etc, something that would get used a lot here. My one word of advice is do not buy any new white goods from the UK to bring here. It is different if you already have them, we brought our tumble drier with us, and it has lasted two years, but has now stopped working and I cannot get anyone to come out and fix it as they have never heard of the make, it's Hotpoint. I presume you will be renting when you first get here so even if it's something you think you will replace later, still bring it here as some of the houses are huge, and we had to buy new furniture to fill the spaces, but when looking to buy a house some of our furniture would not have fitted. So it's best waiting until you buy somewhere before spending money on good furniture. We used Anglo Pacific and they were fantastic, could not fault them. One way to save money is do not use the insurance through your removal company. We completed the inventory that Anglo Pacific gave us to work out a value and then got insurance for less than half price the removers wanted somewhere else. verystormy
Would agree with above - don't buy especially to bring with you, but bring what you have. Now the name is mentioned, I remember it was Anglo Pacific that moved us - though we only shipped 10 cubic meters of boxes. But they were very good. White goods I would say are on a comparable price. As SJT says, houses here tend to be a lot bigger, so you will need all the furnishings you can get. For example, many houses have a home theatre - so you need another sofa for that as well as the living area. Be aware though that most modern houses here have built in wardrobes so not sure if i would bring those.
Druid
Do what we did, bring what you already have and bring everything, even the car, we used PSS, the UK side were excellent, Aus not so great, we filled our 40ft to the brim and glad we did
Carob
We used Crown who were excellent both sides. They used a phenomenal amount of wrapping paper! We chose them as they have their own depot in Perth. Aquis looked at a few things in a 20' container filled to the brim, but nothing needed treatment, so effectively everything cleared very easily. Also, the time frame for arrival was pretty spot on Did seriously consider John Mason and PSS. Best of luck when it comes to unpacking it all.
