loobyloo85
Just a bit of a nosey question but wondering how much money people came to Australia with when they emigrated. We don't have a house to sell but will be bringing money to live comfortably for 6 months. But wondered how much other people came with?! TheMackemSlayer
Depends on circumstance, I guess. Some people stay with friends/relatives for a while, which saves heaps of cash straight away. Others have jobs sorted before arriving, which means money is coming in from the off and so far less funds are needed.

For us its dependant upon if our house sells at auction next month and what we might be left with after mortgage and fees are paid - a very anxious time ( could be left with hardly anything or have a little buffer) - we land in December in Perth and have a 5 1/2 week rental. Worse case it doesn't sell and we have a few thousand and anything else we can get hold of before we go! :-/ gulp! scary times...
Druid
My house didnt sell in time, so I took £30k off the UK mortgage most of which I didnt spend, biggest expense was $14k for a second hand car, selling my car and both my motorbikes in the UK paid for container shipping, our flights and dogs flight
Cherry Allen
We will be coming with £5000, although I am lucky enough to be an Aus citizen so can claim relevant benefits to assist until a job is found. Came with less than that on previous trips, and my husband never had trouble finding work so not an issue previously, but am aware work might not be so abundant at this time. I presume you got a BTL mortgage with a cash advance? Not sure how we would go about investigating this route - or if it was an option - I know the mortgage companies have become so much stricter - we have 25% equity in the house....hmmm you have my mind wondering... tooz2012
<$2k. Stayed with friends. Bought a cheap car and top roadside assistance from RAC. Luckily, job was sorted fairly quickly. Kept the clunker for a few more months and sold it for more than what I bought it for. Like others said, friends and family make all the difference and good exchange rate, ofcourse
