healthcare query?

Recommended Posts

Hi all - we plan to be in Perth april 2016 on pr ( if all goes well )….

…….. However i suffer with endometriosis , so in time will need surgery - And just to add more stress i have just found out that i have a temporal arthritis - which will need 2 years of steriods treatment !!!!

So, just wondering what do i expect ? obviously i will declare illness - but will heath care cover ? What costs could i expect to pay? Any help and advice greatly received :o)

Thanks

Lisa

Medicare covers most things. So would not be too worried.

Register wit a GP when you arrive and go through everything with them.

Your drugs will be charged - as prescriptions here are not free and vary on the drug, though there is a maximum they can charge which I think is about $34 per drug per month

It may be worth getting a letter from your GP or specialist detailing diagnosis, treatment and investigations so avoid them repeating unnecessary tests when you register.

Also be aware that if you take out private health insurance, some companies will not cover you for pre-existing conditions at all, or in some situations, not until you have held the policy for a certain amount of time.
