APPLY NOW IF ELIGIBLE!!!!

Recommended Posts

I am writing this as a warning as I have heard a rumour (must stress this is heresay!!) that the recent announcements may just be the tip of the iceberg and it is rumoured  that there are bigger changes to be announced, presumably in July.

If you are currently eligible now, you may not be in the near future, so don't hold on! Lodge!

You are welcome, whether anyone takes heed or not is their choice! All I can do is advise!! Bit like the 187's, not many people listened to the warnings, but I tried!!!

We know this and are very grateful for your constant advice.

Does anyone know if the 4 year wait to get Citizenship from PR has come into immediate effect? We will have had our PR for a year in September and planned to apply then as our son goes to Uni in 2018. Looks like we won't get Citizenship plus we lose the commonwealth assisted place. So double hit hard by the changes. Any advice greatly received.

From the website " The changes apply to citizenship applications lodged on and after 20 April 2017. The changes do not apply to applications made before 20 April 2017."

I'm pretty sure that it was three years residency before the changes anyway, so you wouldn't have been eligible this September regardless.

It was one years residence until the change.

No, it was 3 years with one year of PR.

Total residency had to be 3 years or more.

No, it was (broadly) 4 years of residence, of which the last 12 months had to be as a permanent visa holder.

See the residence requirements here: https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Citi/Lear/Law-and-policy/conferral

The recently announced changes to the Citizenship Act are yet to pass through the Parliament.

Best regards.
