Orthodontists & Braces

Recommended Posts

To cut a long story short, we are due to arrive in Perth first week of July, 14yr child has today been told she needs braces and these can be fitted by the end of the month but will be needing tightened every 4-8 weeks.

Her teeth are not in anyway bad but she does have a gap where one of her adult teeth never appeared.

Any advice appreciated from people who went out with braces or had them fitted there and the costs involved please we have just over a week to decide what way we want to go

Dental bills can be pretty big in Oz, as there it is all private. But, if the dentist says she needs them, then you will have to get them. It might be worth holding off until you get there to get them fitted and take out insurance and then get them done.

Private insurance rebates for braces can be very low, especially if you claim straight away after getting the policy. I'd get them put on on NHS and just pay for tightening here. Don't know the cost of that though.

Prices for braces can stretch into $000s even with insurance.

I have heard that some orthodontists won't oat fir them tightened (like giving a guarantee for someone else's work).  My daughters braces were $4,000 (we didn't have insurance but the orthodontists continued to see her for check ups until she was 18 (she was 12 when she had them) without further cost.

Thanks for that.  My preference should be to get them fitted here and then have them tightened out there if i can find an orthodontist who will do this.  I don't mind paying if it can be done in instalments but not sure i want to be paying $6000 up front when we have so many other things to purchase when we first arrive

You should be able to find some on healthengine.com.au search for orthadontists joondalup and some should come up. There may be some reviews on there too. You could email them to see if, they will tighten braces fitted in uk.

They usually offer a payment plan and I think you will have to pay even if they just tighten them

I also have the same experience. I was out of town when I also need possible brace tightening. But thank God that I have payment plans and it made me be more ok with paying the fees.
