WHERE DO YOU BUY YOUR MEAT AND FRUIT AND VEG?

    Recommended Posts

So where do you buy your fruit and veg, dairy, meat?   Do you just do one big shop at Coles or Woollies, or do you have some local independent greengrocer or butcher that you use?

I am blessed to have a Gilberts store at Southlands Shopping Centre and buy the majority of my fruit, veg, cold meats, cheese etc there.  Gilbert is a local guy who sells really good quality products that are mostly Australian produced, and West Australian as much as possible.   His prices are always good too.

I don't have a particular butcher that I use at the moment though and spread my custom between Leonards as they use Mt Barker organic chicken, my local IGA as they sell Harvey Beef and Linley Valley Pork, which is all ethically farmed, and the Dardanup Butchery Compan ( who raise and butcher all their own meat) when I am down in the Bunbury area and can have a big buy up.

I try to use local businesses in everything that I purchase or services I use, so I am always interested to know of good places around Perth that I can investigate.

My local IGA is great for meat and veg ... I also use Gilberts (he sponsors and is involved in our football club) and the butchers and fishmongers at Southlands are excellent.

Sorry, I'm lazy and get it all from Coles, unless we have kebabs, I use the butcher at Southlands, for them.

I visited friends in Carramar yesterday and they needed to food shop so we ended up at Drovers on Waneroo Road.   OH MY!    The fruit and veg there was good value, as was the bakers, but then we went into the butcher section...... I was blown away at the quality, choice and price of meat....!!!

I will be back with an eski next time I visit this end of town... so amazing.   I bought a few odd things that I could use but the prices were amazing and I wish I lived closer to this place.

Spudshed in Badivis, very cheap and pretty good quality

I have shopped in their Jandakot store at times and whilst I found their prices good, I wasn't too impressed overall with the quality of fresh produce.  Some was good, some wasn't.   I guess if you are a big family and buying large quantities, Spudshed would be the way to go.   I only shop for one so Spudshed is a bit overkill for me, but totally get why families shop there.

I agree, sometimes the fruit isn't great at times, generally though if you have a good look around its fine.

you cant get everything there but what you can get is way cheaper, Heinz baked beans are 79c a can at the moment for instance and the bottled water is always the cheapest...
