Hi,

My partner starts his new job in May 2008 , if all goes to plan. Intially he has 3 months training in Joondalup and then he will be based in Mirrabooka.

Can anyone give us a little advice on wheres nice to live in between the two locations. We will be renting for the first year or so. We will be looking at having a family next year and so would like to be near to schools and easy access to local amenties. All advice greatfully recieved.

I cannot believe how fast time is flying. I'm getting a little nervous now but definately looking forward to the move. :P

Mirrabooka is a very cosmopolitan suburb, it used to have a terrible reputation as being an area with a high crime rate.............. not too sure if that is still applicable since the advent of the new police station there?

It has a massive shopping centre and business complex; a bus terminus, it also houses a huge Mosque. There are million dollar mansions in certain pockets of Mirrabooka, Marangaroo golf course is just around the corner. Centrelink (the DOLE) has a big prominence in Mirrrabooka has as various Migrant Learning Centres for new arrivals who can brush up on their English skills and learn to envelop change of culture.

Mirrabooka is okay to a certain extent; on a personal level I would not choose to live there. It is close by to several none affluent areas such as Girrawheen, Koondoola, Balga, and Westminster which does attract a lot of attention re crime waves, rival Asian gangs; and socially unacceptable behaviour. However, in fairness to said suburbs you can witness that sort of behaviour in the more affluent suburbs too.

At most, Mirrabooka would be a 20 minute drive from Joondalup. If you have the choice i would recommend you look at living in Joondalup's surrounding suburbs ...................... dependent on your budget of course.

Have a look at properties around the Currambine, Connolly, Edgewater, Hocking, Carramar, Tapping, Somerly, Ridgewood areas................ which are all much better than Mirrabooka from a resale point of view............ yet all within a 20 minute drive from your partner's workplace.

Give me a call when you arrive and i can point you in the right direction as to what's what in terms of renting or buying property over here.

Is your partner based at the Academy in Joondalup initially?
