Guest qk1
Great news....I just got my 1 year working holiday visa yesterday. I am married with 2 children aged 4 and 6 months but ill be going to perth alone, early october so im just wondering is there still plenty of work in construction (a builder) but willing to do anything. Would it be very difficult to get a sponsor so my wife and children can join me
cockneybynature
Mate its not easy just walking into a job, but I would advise you to look at the mines / resources set up if you want the most money. Go to Seek - plug in the word 'mining' - WA, and see the hundreds of jobs offered in the mines. You will have to FIFO from Perth on each roster, anything more than a 2:1 can be a wrench though from wife and kids - dont get divorced over this. Sometimes to get a foot in the door jobwise you may have to accept a longer FIFO roster (swing). However once you know the ropes and you know you are worth in the mining industry, you can then look around for a better FIFO swing. FIFO means that you will fly into the minesite and then fly back when its your break (lots of poms do this). Its like getting a bus to work except you are getting on a jet at the domestic airport in perth. Because Perth freeways are almost at car gridlock - it can often be less stressful to FIFO from Perth airport than use a car to get to work in mainstream Perth. Good luck
Guest MARSHALLS
Hello fella dont wanna bring any sorrow to the excitmeant of the move, we have been here a week and I am a spark and there seems to be good number of companies looking for sparks so here is hoping, been looking for a long term let now for the week day in day out and there aint much about and what there is is over priced and shocking. Just looked at a property from a UK couple heading back he was a builder and been saying there is No work about for him so he heading back. Mentioned he was on $1200 a week which sounds good but when u take out ye rent 450 - 600 a week for a decent rental plus bills etc etc he cant manage so going back. News reports building work had collapsed as can buy used cheaper than can buy new so not much building going on. look hard and long mate as its a long way and a lot of £s if there aint anything here for you and the family work wise. Have a look at the mines as mentioned but most mine company want underground experience there is also the gorgon project off coast good money if you can get on there. Look bud its just what I have been told but if can give you any more details or if can help when U get here pm us and we will help if we can we all in this big boat together we are up near Joondalup but drop us a line if we can help we will. Whats clarkson like we have been advised to stay clear (dont want a new thread from that comment) just what have been advised, We are in Connolly on the golf course and yes the rent available is shocking unless you got 900 a week to spend, What do you do for a living and have you managed to find jobs over this side ok, keep in touch always nice to hear how someone else is getting on

If that is what people accept here then they are obviously not fussy and no wonder landlords get away with it. That torn faced old bag of a letting agent wasnt even embarrased showing people that place! Never mind hope we both have better luck next week, we are going to try further south. Hi hope you get a job soon, Im hopeful that you will! As i have said in another post, rents here are not cheap!! $450 to $600 a week sounds excessive! Well actually at the lower end, $450 sounds average! Anything more than that would need to have something special! Consider for that it would usually include shire rates and water rates, although you pay for water usage! Its hard if you cant find a job straight away as then you are eating int your savings. When we arrived here, nearly 4 years ago, hubby was nearly 2 months finding a job! Luckily i had a job before arrival, otherwise it would have been really hard! Good luck in the job hunt and the rental!
