Guest Hetty
Hi, my partner is Chris and I'm Ali and we're just about to move from the UK to live permanently in Mandurah. It's all a bit daunting right now and it would be great to hear from anyone in that area that is looking to meet new Poms like us We are due to arrive in Perth on Sunday 4th September and my son who is 12 years old, will start shortly after that at Austin Cove Baptist College. We have lots of interests which include anything from watersports to food to music to travelling etc and it would be good to hear from any like minded people living in this area. Look forward to hearing from you. Ali and Chris

Guest Hetty
Hi Barbara I wondered if you are meeting this Thursday as it's the school holidays? If you are, please let me know and I'll come on down. Am keen to get to know some people in the area as I'm feeling a bit lonely right now! Thanks Ali
Guest Hetty
Hi Kelly I really am rubbish at replying! How are you getting on out here? What is Secret Harbour like? Mandurah has its' good points and bad points but I'm glad to say that there are more good than bad. We are settling in OK and getting through all of the red tape and paperwork involved. It'll be better when we move into our house as we're in a small rental right now. The shipping is due to arrive in the next 2 weeks so I can't wait for all of that - it'll be like Christmas. Reply when you have a minute. Ali

Guest GandL
Hi Ali and Chris. We're the Nathans, Greg, Leeann and Molly (14). We hope you're enjoying being in Mandurah. We stayed there for a few months in late 2009 and all loved it. Leeann has always wanted to live in Oz and it didn't take long to persuade me! We're emigrating (at last!) in January on a 475. As Molly will be starting in Year 9 in Feb could you let us know what you think about Austin Cove- quality of teaching, facilities etc. We're looking at schools online but would love some real life input! ps Sharky's a good choice for a coffee -gotta love the view! Guest Hetty
Hi Michelle How are things your end getting organised for coming out? I remember how stressful it was and we were flat out trying to get everything done in time. Where in Halls Head are you going? It's a pretty big area with the older part and the newer part up towards Falcon. We are in the older bit, about 15 mins walk from town which is very handy for a quick walk and coffee in town or a glass of vino at night and you don't have to worry about driving back! Hear from you soon. Ali Hi Hetty Hows is going, hope your enjoying your new life. We arrive in 8 weeks cant wait. Which part of Mandurah have you settled on? We are heading to Halls Head. Guest Hetty
Hi Kelly and Cassy I'll be going the meeting at Sharkeys too this Thursday. I'll be bringing Greg along who is 12 years old. He is in year 7 at Austin Cove out at South Yunderup. We are both keen to meet new people in the area as we only arrived just over a month ago. All is going well so far though. Hope to see you. Guest Hetty
Hi GandL! How are you? Hope the preparations for moving out are going well. We seem to have been on a roll of organising our new life for months now and we still seem to be doing it here! It takes ages to sort everything out but I reckon we are nearly there. The shipping arrives to our door on the 18th Oct at long last so I can't wait for that. It'll be like Christmas all over again. I'm sick of wearing the same clothes and not having all of the things that we need. Roll on the 18th! Greg my son is at Austin Cove in Year 7 and will be going into Year 8 in Feb. He's only been at the school for just over 2 weeks (as they are on holiday again now) but he seems to like it there. Being a small school has its pros and cons. On the pro front, the classes are small so that the teachers can keep an eye on trouble makers and get rid of them (they've expelled 3 Yr & boys since Feb 2011 due to bad behaviour and the fact the kids persistently ignored warnings). I am all up for strict schooling and no trouble so I back that ethos up 100%. The kids all seem pretty friendly and well balanced. The teaching again seems up to standard from what I've seen but it is early days. On the cons front, the school is small and therefore the kids don't have the access to facilities whether physics labs or sports facilities that they may have access to at larger schools. It is so hard to get the kids into the established private schooling system though as they are fully booked for years. We registered with 4 of them last year. They're all happy to take your money to register a place but then they tell you they're full. Not good practice as they should tell you that you have no chance of getting your kid in there before they take your money.Anything else you want to know, just ask. Hi, we arrived in Secret Harbour 2 weeks ago... staying with my sister at the moment. We will be heading towards the Mandurah area after Christmas as we too are on a 475 visa and have restrictions on living and working. We have a 13 year old daughter and a 10 year old son. We have got our children in to the Secret Harbour schools... and Will, our son is loving it... but Megan is struggling.... she was in year 9 in the UK (Derby) and has now gone in to the end of the school year in year 8..... she is usually outgoing and participates in school activities, has come from a large group of girly friends, loves dancing, singing and drama...... and now is quiet and withdrawn and depressed!!!! its pretty heartbreaking.... and has put a black cloud over the experience for us all... but on the bright side... the school have been fantastic and she has had a couple of days off... and has a new timetable, a peer mentor and the school has organised a 'new starters' tea morning session as there a a few new starters apparently?... so will start a fresh on monday.... fingers crossed and crossed again!!! My husband is footie mad... and having withdrawal symptoms already!!!!!! I've joined a gym, we have brought a car.... so making progress slowly! Guest loopyl
Hi dobbsy, we live in meadow springs at the moment and really enjoy it not to far from Madora bay beach but we are moving up to secret harbour to get a house with a pool. Our kids 13 and 10 go to schools down here in mandurah but my youngest he will be moving to secret harbour school. We arrived over in January and believe me we went through the same with both kids it's hard seeing the change in them but they will get friends and start enjoying it. I hope your daughter feels better soon x My husband was the same with football I need to get foxtel as they have all the games on that for him to watch.
