Guest SueRich
Hi There, Just a quick query - My OH is a contractor here in the UK. He subcontracts people through the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS). I do all the admin work for his company and find this scheme pretty straight forward becuase all you have to do is pay the subcontractors tax once they have invoiced you - They're not classed as an employee so there is no messing about with sick pay or National Insurance and no contract between you. If we move to Oz and he continues his tiling business is there a scheme like CIS which exists? We would probably only consider subcontracting if it was quite straightforward to do! The reason I am asking this questions is because we are trying to decide - Business visa or skilled visa??? Thanks for your help! Guest sunnywa
You can emply contractors here as well . You need to register for GST and get an ABN NUmber . They give you a tax invoice , which you inturn pay , and every quarter you have to complete a BAS and pay and claim the GST via your BAS. You would need to check , as I do think that you still have to have Indeminity Insurance in the event that a contractor gets injured on your worksite.
