Guest SueRich
Hi All, Just a quick query - I have been looking at regional sponsorship in WA. Am I correct in thinking that we would be able to live & work in the Mandurah area? I have read somewhere that regional sponsorship allows you to live & work out of the Perth Met area. I found a list of postcodes on one of the immigration website and this included Mandurah and surrounding subs but I just wondered if someone could clarify this for me. Also, when you apply for regional sponsorship do you have to state where you will live & work or can this be decided on later? Finally, my OH is a tiler so will not have 1 place of work (eg an office). He will travel around tiling both domestic and commercial properties. Does anyone know if this is ok as long as he only works in the postcode areas on the list and does not work in the Perth met area? Thanks Sue
blackpool3
Hi Sue - We have just got our 475 visa (state sponsored for a regional area) and looking at heading to Mandurah as well. I have checked up and Mandurah is fine as it falls outside the Perth Metro area - You don't have to tell them where you are planning on settling but I think once you are there you have to let them know as you have to complete surveys and things. I too have to live for 2 years & work for 1 in a regional area before going on for the full visa. We are looking at coming out to Perth June 2012 when my son finishes school. As long as you can prove that you have lived and worked for the required period of time in a regional area you should be ok for a full visa. Hope this helps .....Regards Steve
Guest SueRich
Thanks Steve, What made you apply for regional sponsorship rather than state sponsorship? I have looked into both regional and state but unfortunately with state sponsorship we would only have 60 points so regional would give us that extra 5 points which we need. (My OH could do the ILETS for extra points but we are trying to avoid it!). I have done a bit of research on Mandurah and I think it looks lovely! I didn't realise that you only needed to work for 1 year in a regional area - This is good as a year will pass by so quickly. My OH will be self-employed as a tiler so i'm just hoping he will find enough work outside the Perth met area to keep us going. Sue. PS: Did you use an agent to help with your application for regional sponsorship and visa?
blackpool3
Hi Sue - We gota state sponsorship for a regional area (475 visa) - tried for the full visa but the WA Government changed all the skills so my only option was the state sponsored route to get the extra 10 points. We used a company Based in Perth called ASA - http://www.australia-migration.com/page/About_ASA/109 I was worried about using them as they are on the other side of the world but read the reviews and their success rate so went with them. They have been brilliant and give good advice on what you can get. It is a long and difficult process as there is so much paperwork to do and to get your skills assessed. Thankfully we have got our visa now and there could be some more good news as there is talk of the WA goverment changing perth so that is classed as a regional area because of the skills shortage. So we are holding our breath for that one. regards steve
