Grrr! Extra Baggage Charges!

I'm flying in on a BA ticket next month, which of course means the last leg is on Qantas. So here I am trying to book a second suitcase as checked baggage.......it's not too expensive with BA - in fact its a bit of a bargain! But.......Qantas have their own VERY different and VERY expensive rules! If I understand correctly, I would only be able to book and pay for the second suitcase as far as Singapore with BA, but then I'd have to collect this second bag and re-check it in (and pay an eye-watering amount) at the Qantas desk! Has anyone else discovered this - and is there any workaround, please?

You can pre-purchase additional baggage allowance on Qantas from Asia. Once you have purchased your tickets, go onto the Qantas website login , pay for the additional baggage. Take your receipt with you when you check in at british Airways. They can then " interline" your luggage without you having to collect your bag and re-checkin at Singapore airport.

This is the website to go and have a read.

British Airways and Qantas code share on the Singapore to Perth leg. The alternative is to make sure that you are on the British Airways flight number from Singaproe to Perth , then BA can charge you for the excess bagage all the way through to Perth.

Hope that helps

Latest update on this, and it's good news!

I called BA again, and this time got someone very helpful - she explained that becuase the journey involves changing carriers (BA to Singapore, Qantas from there to Perth), even though its codeshare and I have a BA end-to-end ticket, I can't make use of the BA online system to book a second suitcase in. However (this is the good bit) she told me to go to my departure airport (in my case, Luxembourg) and ask them what they will charge - which should be in accordance with IATA rules. Did that, and was pleasantly surprised to be told the extra case will cost me €50 (about $70) - which is a LOT better than the £130 ($200) I was quoted to send it by surface - and with an 8 week transit time!

Whew!
