Guest NikkiD
Hello, We are moving to Perth in a few weeks (arrive 26th October 11) and am panicking slightly re schools. We have 2 boys, one turns 4 in Feb (so eligible for Kindy for 11hrs a week) and the other is only 16months. My husbands company is putting us up for 3 weeks (area tbc) and after that we are on our own. We have researched various areas for a long time now but till we are there it is near impossible making the decision and naturally my sons school is a key driver. Can anybody assist me on primary school reputations in the suburbs from Scarborough up to Mullaloo and also south of river suburbs if any that are not millionaire price bracket ;-) And also - what is the enrollment procedure? jackboots
As soon as you know your catchment areas ring or go along to the school where the kindy is held and ask for the enrollment proceedure , forms etc.. as a migrant you will be asked for passports , vaccination history , birth certificates , proof of address etc
Guest NikkiD
brilliant - thanks for quick reply. Once we locate where to live do I simply knock on the door and take it from there? My concern is that they will have already filled for next year? When do the schools break up November onwards???
welshie
Hi, I think as Kindy is non compulsary, then boundary restrictions dont apply. I know that at my daughters school, the enrollment process for 2012 Kindy intake is complete already, so you may find that your name will go on a waiting list until a spot becomes available. If you send the schools an email, they should let you know what they require for enrollment, but its usually a birth certificate, immunisation details and a utility bill. Guest bakercrew
Hi, Nikki my son will also be turning 4 in Feb and will be arriving a week after you, so will be in same position as you looking for Kindy. So please let me know how you are getting on with it all. I will prob keeping him with me until Jan as schools will finish in Dec, however my daughter who is 8 will be starting school as soon as I get there and find her school so she can meet some friends before school summer hols start. We will be staying in Baldivis area when we arrive so will be looking near that area. Good luck with your move etc, there is so much to organise both ends. TheRocks
Hi I just got my 4yr old into next term at kindy and into preprimary in Feb. They wont let you put their name down unless you physically go to the school and fill out the form. When I rang the school they were really cagy and said they didn't think they had any places but if I came down and filled out the application they would see.Once they saw I was physically in the country and had a local address they took him straight in there and then to preprimary, their kindy is full which isn't surprising as there is only 1 term left but they gave me the name of 3 others and even rang one first to see if they had a place. I know a friend of mine said her DS kindy has a sign up saying anyone looking for a place for next year to let them know.
Arwen
For Kindy a lot of schools will already have all their places allocated for next year. Good schools will be full. Catchment areas don't apply as such but when allocating places catchment students will be selected over out of catchment. The criteria is catchment with siblings catchment no siblings out of catchment with siblings out of catchment It is very difficult for K and PP if you miss the enrolment dates which are usually in July/August of the year before the child starts.
