Hi All,

Just a quick query - If we apply for a regional sponsored visa (subclass 475) how long once the visa is granted do we have to pack all our stuff up and move?Obviously we will be make preparations along the way ie selling some stuff and trying to get organised but how long would we be given to arrive in Oz after the visa is granted?

Hi Sue

As I understand it, if you get a 475 visa (three year provisional visa) then you should try to move over within 12 months in order to satisfy the requirement of spending two years in a regional area, if you don't do that you wont be able to progress onto a Permanent Residency visa. (I believe there is provision to apply for an extension of 12 months, but you can only do that once).

Thank You.

I knew there were requirements to meet with regards to living in an area for 2 years and working for 1 but I just wondered if there was a time restriction on arriving in Australia once the 475 was granted. 12 months is more than enough to get everyhing sorted!

Cheers, Sue x

  • 3 weeks later...

[h=2]This applies to the following visas and I have checked with my Migration agent for our Skilled Regional Sponsored (provisional) (Subclass 475)

Follow this link

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/whats-new.htm#12sept

Regional classification for Perth – 12 September 2011[/h]Following the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship’s recent announcement to include Perth in the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS), a number of changes have been made effective from 12 September 2011.

  • regional postcodes for the RSMS to include Perth
  • the inclusion of Perth as a regional area for family sponsored applications through the regional General Skilled Migration program.

In summary, Perth has been classified as regional for the following migration programs:

  • Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (Subclass 119 & 857)
  • Skilled Regional Sponsored (provisional) (Subclass 475)
  • Skilled Regional Sponsored (provisional) (Subclass 487)
  • Skilled Regional (permanent) (Subclass 887).

Hope this helps

Steve

Hi Steve I know where you are coming from I have an email from immi in London saying we can work anywhere then got told it is wrong. I contacted Wa and they said no and referred me back to their announcement on their site. I can't copy and paste as on my phone. It's vevery confusing but also in the link it does only refer to family sponsored not state sponsored and a big risk if we don't follow the rules when it comes to converting to PR.

I am with go Matilda and Alan collet has confirmed it's a no too. It may be worth asking immi in oz to confirm so as there is something in writing. Just wanted to pass on what I have been advised. So please don't think I am being rude :) when are you off by the way and where are you heading?

[h=2]Here's what Migration WA has to say

Regional classification for Perth - 12 September 2011[/h][h=3]Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme[/h]On 12 September 2011 the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship confirmed Perth's regional status for the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (Subclass 119/857).

As a result, employers located in Perth and surrounding areas will be able to access the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) to recruit and sponsor skilled workers.

For further information regarding the RSMS process please contact Skilled Migration WA by email at migration@dtwd.wa.gov.au.

[h=3]State sponsorship applications for the Skilled Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa (Subclass 475 or 487)[/h]The changes announced by the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship do not affect State Sponsorship applications for the Skilled Regional Sponsored visa classes.

Applicants who are successful in gaining a State Sponsored visa for the Skilled regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa (Subclass 475 or 487) are still required to live and work in a regional area of Western Australia outside of Perth.

Listed below are the eligible postcodes in Western Australia for Skilled Regional Sponsored visa holders:

From the horses mouth so to speak - reply from Western Australia migration

Dear Steve

Thank you for your email enquiry. The information provided by your agent is not correct.

DIAC announced Perth's regional status however this is only for the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme and as a designated area for the purposes of GSM subclasses 475 and 487 sponsorship by an eligible relative.

Based on your information provided in the email you will not be able to live in the Perth metropolitan area.

I hope this has clarified your query.

Kind regards

Hi Michelle

Yeah bit of a downer when you find your agent is not up to speed, but on the positive side Mandurah is a much better place to live (we visited 3 years ago) and looking at rental prices you get a load more for your money. Just spoke to my wife (I work offshore on the gas rigs in Health safety so away for 2 weeks at the moment) and she is happy about Mandurah but just have to think of the job situation. The flights are booked so we are coming regardless 28th june.
