Brisbane is a fantastic place; we lived over there and used Brisbane as our base for many years when I was working up in the mines in Papua New Guinea.

For the last 18 years we have resided in Perth and as much as we loved it over in Brisbane; IMHO Perth is much better.

At the end of the day it all depends on what the individual really wants. Irrespective as to where you do eventually end up; I reckon you will find anywhere throughout the land of Oz much better than life back in the UK.

Good luck with your choice.

Hiya

Just to let you know my OH is a carpenter too. We visited Perth in 2004 for a recky, put out kids in schools and rented a house in Sorrento and had a fab time. Now waiting for our visa to arrive.

Private schools are subsidised by the government and range from around £1000 to £8000 per year which is amazing compared to the UK. Local state schools seem to be fine - our kids thrived in them. They had a zero tolerance to bullying and had lots of facilities as far as we could see. The children made loads of friends and settled in really well.

Perth's climate with its low humidity beats sweaty Brisbane any time. As for what suburb, it depends on your budget and expectations but there are very few 'bad' areas in Perth and you're never too far from the beach.
