portlaunay
....in Perth/WA that you wouldn't have done wherever you came from? I was thinking that this might serve as inspiration to others and don't really have any guidelines, just whatever you think might make people think about trying something new. (It might be best if it's clean, there may be children present) For me it's been volunteering. When I first arrived a friend invited me to help out at a communal garden as they thought I'd like to meet some people. At 40 I'm the youngest there by a country mile and it's just fantastic. We chat and laugh, they tell great stories, I dig holes and plant trees, build walls and prune roses and it's something I really look forward to. In London I wouldn't have had the time or more likely been less inclined to make the time. I don't mean this to sound self righteous or preachy, I'm genuinely interested in what's been good for you and how you got into it.
Guest sunnywa
I have to agree , volenteering is a great way of getting invloved with the community. Some how its just seems that the pace of life is just that bit slower than where I originally came from. You have time to smell the roses as such. The Australians are very generous people and people give ....not just of their time but when there is a crisis financially as well. You learn to give and appreciate others for what they do for their fellow humans.
Give me a break!
I missed out on so much back in the UK because I was working all the time. Now I dont have to work I am able to volunteer at the school and really get involved in my sons education, help on school trips in the classroom and the kiss and drive. We can also build a brand new house from scratch on only one wage, I couldnt even afford a new kitchen in the UK with both of us working flat out!
