I have been told that until you become a citizen you have to pay an fee every year you live in WA on a PR Visa?? Is this true? It's the first I've ever heard of it and our agent certainly never mentioned it but the informant said "its one of the hidden things you are not aware of until u arrive!"

Is she a well informed person who is giving me helpful advice and warning or is she just trying to p**s on our fireworks??? Help please from any of u guys already there xx

:wacko::mad::mad::mad:

I have never heard of this, ever. I think she is defintely having you on. Can you imagine all the Brits that dont ever take out Citizenship, they would never put up with that. Exactly what was this fee called and how is the government supposed to collect it?

I'm not sure & she never gave it a name. She reckoned her friend who lives in North Perth had to pay it & apparently when u become a citizen you can claim back all the money that you have paid out to get over there!!! I've never heard of anything like it either but didn't wanna dismiss it until I had asked people who would know x

No that's rubbish! - we came over in 2009 to live in Adelaide on a PR visa and have heard no such thing. We are moving to Perth permanently in a month, as we have now completed our 2 year PR commitment in South Australia. The only thing possibly the person may be talking about is you may have to pay a bit more tax etc on a Temp (TR) visa, but that would be coming back to you every year on a tax return anyway. TR people will correct me if this is not the case.. But the citizen thing is plain silly. As "SunnyWA" said we would all be up in arms if that was case and would be bordering on discrimination!
