blackpool3
Hi We have got our visa through and just booked our flights for June 2012. We have been looking at shippers and I was wandering if it worth the hassle to bring my motorbike with me. Anyone else shipped a bike across? Cheers Steve

Druid
You need to have owned it for 12 months leading up to the day you apply for the permit, dont ship it without a permit, you will end up sending it back, to get a permit you need to prove to the Aussies you intend to stay in Australia forever, another points test im afraid, the Aussies like points test, read VSB10 http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/importing_vehicles/general/EligibilityCriteria_2.aspx#five Its quite involved, I am in the process of shipping my car, I had two bikes I would have liked to have shipped but unfortunately I am only allowed 1 vehicle and the car is more practicle. blackpool3
Thanks for the info - they certainly like their points tests as you say May not bother and put the money towards a car when I get there Cheers Steve

blackpool3
You could try bringing it over in parts but just depends on customs as they will check if they see motorbike wheels and things (you may have to register the bike as scrapped in the UK) - they are switched on to all the scams. They check my golf clubs, strimmer etc. when I got here but if they are all clean there is no problem. I priced bikes when I got here and they are more expensive than the UK but seem to be coming down in prica a bit now.If you do bring your own bike they will more than likely want to steam clean it for $250 and you also pay GST (tax) depending on the value and also a registration fee. Then you will have to get the plates changed. I gave up and sold mine
Guest PAPPACLART
I have 2 bikes, would love to bring them over. I suspect the shipping costs would be around £1000 mark.

I plan to ship my race bike(s) under this ruling but you cant road reg it after that.

blackpool3
I was quoted 900 pounds by Crown to bring mine (but I was having a 20' container off them as well

Problem is if they are both in your name, you can only bring one if they are both inyour name and you have to have had them in your name for a year leading up to the permit application

You need the import permit to rego it, your bike wont have the ADR Plate on it to be able to rego it as an Aussie made bike, the only other thing you could do is go find a right off in a local scrappies and use your bits to rebuild it, but I think customs would have impounded you by then, you cant bring any vehicles in without a permit, even in bits
