Guest cartertucker
I am so confused where to start looking at schools? We havent yet decided on an area to settle & are thinking that a good school should factor in this, but how to know? Please offer me any advice
portlaunay
We came to Willeton partly because of the schools. We trawled the web and talked to a lot of people here and all said the same so it sounded like a good bet. The school website is pretty good too. My eldest is 8 and both my kids are at Rostrata and it's really great, certainly better than the school my eldest was at in the UK. We've heard that Rossmoyne and Willetton High schools are excellent schools too. I'm not sure you'll find a single site with all the facts about schools and league tables can often be misleading, this forum is probably your best source of info. We like Willetton for it's close proximity to the city (2 stops out), it's close to the river, Canning Market is great for the food shop, there's a fantastic Cantonese restaurant close by and there's a park on every block. We'd like to move a little closer to the river to be in Rossmoyne, Shelley or Riverton so unless we find a pot of cash to allow us to move to Freo we're likely to stay here. Good luck with your search.
carolyn
Hi there, We are living in Duncraig at present and our son Thomas who is 13 goes to Duncraig Senior High which we know to be pretty good. The neighbouring suburb of Carine is known to have a good High school too and good primary school. These areas are great for proximity to beach (about 5 min drive), shopping centres and trains. We love living in this area but I guess it depends on how close to the city you want to be. We are about 10mins on train into Perth. When are you going to be arriving in WA and how old are your children. Good luck with whatever you decide. Carolyn

Guest Anouska
Hi I am also having a similar worry My children are just 13 and 10, we were heading to secret harbour/ baldivis but not sure now because of schools as even the independent schools seem to be full!!! If my children go to a state high it will leave us with more money for all their hobbies!!!! My daughter started a thread on here last week "love shopping and beach need a good state high school" on something for the kids. It has some good views and advise, I am now looking in those areas houses are more expensive ( schools push the value up ). Let me know how you get on:) Regards Anouska x
ali
http://www.myschool.edu.au/ Willeton, Rossmoyne and Leeming all have good reputations, Willeton and Rossmoyne rate highly academically. My daughter goes to Leeming SHS and has loved it there and has met her needs
Guest Tazzie
Hi Kelly... Funny you have just started this thread as I only just sent you a message today on MSN asking if you had done anything about schools, as this is something I have just started to look into! My Cousin who lives in WA has a friend who is a teacher and she gave me a website which lists the best schools, Primary and Secondary, Private and Government. I have been comparing this site with the one Ali has given to you above... So far, it seems that the primary schools West of Perth stand out from the rest... I would be interested to know what your thoughts are and anyone else's. http://www.bettereducation.com.au Its so hard to know where to start when searching for areas to live. A good school does certainly bump up the house prices. Someone on the PIO forum also suggested that its worth checking the Secondary schools over the Primary ones as they are more important for the children... So much to think about!
