Hi, Perth has the swan river running through it so you have north of the river or south of the river a lot of people have preference for one or the other, i suppose it depends were you work as to where you will eventually live. I have decided to live south of river as i find it a wee bit cheaper to rent and buy than the north. As for your holiday i suppose it depends what you want, do you wnt to be near the beach or city, if your hiring a car then it won't matter so much really, i would advise getting a sat nav, we bought one on sale as it worked out cheaper than hiring one from the car rental firm we used. There is a book called ' Perth in suburbia ' which i ordered on line telling you all about different area's bit i found it expensive for what it was. tRY http://www.locationlowdown.com.au and look up any area of interest. Try and visit as many places as you can whilst enjoying your hols, if you have an area of interest ask on here for advice folk are always willing to help out and give sound advice. Try http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk for a rental. I am sure you will have a great holiday the beaches are wonderful, Fremantle is well worth a visit especially at wkends as the market is on and theres loads of nice eating places, try secret harbour , Mandrurah south of river, Joondalup, Mindarie Quinns rock, Hillary's .... north of river, may give you a feel of which you prefer from north or south. It may all seem very expensive on hols but just remember your not earning the dollar yet it's just the exchange rate is so crapper.:arghh: hope that has helped a bit. Anything else you wanna know just ask Ann

Dear liverpoolloo;

which suburb (north or souht perth)would you please suggest for a person who needs to search job after landing with a small family of two adults and a toddler?I have heard that Scarborough is good place to live and rentals are way below comparatively. I am also considering City of Canning as my potential residence?Please suggest especially for the one with limited budget and searching job .

Thanks.

Really wish i could help you out regarding areas, as for rentals and being on a budget may be best to talk to an estate agent who can point you in the right direction for the best areas. If you don't have a car then i would look for an area near the train station or good bus service. All very difficult trying to suss out the right area before you get there isn't it? Hope someone can give you some answers on here. Ann

I have been here since 96 and its fantastic, to be fair its all about location and budget, what kind of budgetare you thinking about as half a million dollars doesnt get you much. rentals are norm around the 500 a week for a decent ish house or good apartment, new developments are better value but are always further from beach and CBD have a look on reale estate .com .au. Perth is divided into North(full of pommes, South is quiter, but not as well serviced as yet, East is usually cheaper (I live south east but just 7k,s to the city, email me direct if you wanr more help as I wish I had done this when I came over, I was lucky as had no kids so i moved and rented a lot until I knew the real estate market, god luck and I am happy to provide exmples of where and how much etc, if you let me know how many beds ra ra ra and kids ages as some schools are a lot better than others, whic wil again affect the cost of where you live

cheers
