The only thing DVLA want is the little yellow slip from your V5 when the ship leaves, its nothing to do with DVLA

You need to apply for the import permit as soon as possible, you need to have owned the vehicle for 12 months leading up to the day you export it, read VSB10 from the above link

We're bringing our late bay over once we have the money to do so. It's good to see another dub coming back to Oz after the mass export of them from here over the last few years.

What conversion is it? From what I've seen good conversions such as Devons and Westy's are very hard to find here so hold their value and as yours is a '73 you won't have to pay the full whack of tax newer vehicles are liable for.

My best advice would be to speak to Kristian here;

He has been so helpful, is East coast based and imports loads of vehicles every year so really knows his stuff. His rates are good and he has an excellent reputation. Your bus will have to go over the pit for inspection and anything that is not stock will be scrutinised but it's not as bad as some people make out. Ours will inevitably fail the first time but there are some good VW workshops around, including one in Freo, not far from me with a good reputation.

That said with garages and carports so big over here if you can do the work yourself then you'll have plenty of space to do so.

Other dubs are pretty cheap here, I'm currently spooning around in a really nice '63 bug. :biggrin:

Good luck and PM me if you need any other info from here.

thanks for the replys, i have called the dvla and yes they only need the little slip once we have shipped it but i have also phoned canberra and they have adised that we dont have to have owned it for 12 months, we just have to send relevant docs... copy of oh's passport, receipt of purchase and photos to see what condition its in. it has not been modified so we are ok but the bodywork and the whole van is sound, we have had it checked over by Dubwerks and they say that the bus is solid so we are happy, we will be respraying it and lots of other things as we have realised they are money pits but that is only to get it how we want it , we will do al this when we are over and settled.

Im sure your bug is lovely, i drive one now but a 54 reg so im selling it before the move but our daughter wants the old style bug for when she passes her test in a few years!!
