well despite not even having started the ball rolling with applying for Visas (!) we've decided we like the look of scarborough, very ironic considering hubby wanted to move to the UK and I said no, much to the humour of all my friends and family, they'd get a shock if I say moving to this one!

So really want anyones thoughts/advice on the area, I'm in real easte, he's in mortgages but really wants to live there for surf. Is there a lot to do in the town as well etc (I dont surf and will need some life for my sanity!).

Also does anyone know the score on bringing your dog but moving into rented accommodation as its quite frowned upon here (given he's a rottie not sure how it will be over there).

if anyone can tell us more about the area, jobs, houses and pets I'd be really grateful.

Also if anyone can recommend a good migration agent as we are definately going to pay for one, not taking any chances!!

Visited Perth in January 08, stayed in Scarborough, the beaches and sea are fabulous.

The evenings are not so good, there are alot of boy racers screaming around the roads. There were not many choices in bars, cafe/restaurants.

There is one britiish pub on the front which is heaving,at the weekends, we saw lots of very young drunk girls and boys sitting on the pavements.:o

As you drive away from the seafront there are quite a few areas which seem really nice to live in.

The house prices are cheaper as you move away from the beach area.

We spoke with a real esate agent who said scarborough is up and coming, there is alot of building work planned for the next ten years.

Renting is a problem, simply because there are so many people moving to the area and not enough houses to go around.

You are correct when you mention about your dog being a problem, I think aussies think animals will completly ruin the house ( personally I think kids are worse!!)

Real estate agencies hold open days for rental properties, so you could turn up on a day along with 40 other couples.....

Make sure you have a couple of references. If you are selling your own house get the estate agent to write a reference for you.

Hope this helps a little....

thanks for that, I'm looking at Freemantle & Cottesloe too but hubby reckons the beaches there get too crowded, personally I think its better to live somewhere nice- you can drive to the other beaches! Got a friend who lives in Perth but we've not been in touch for ages so desperately waiting for her to get back to me about best areas.

I suppose the advantage of scarborough for me is that it is up and coming as I work in real estate but judging by the sites I've read so far I will prob have to take an admin job initially as it more regulated over there than here and you need to get registered etc. I've emailed a property recruitment agency for advice.

Thanks for your input, any info is really helpful as we're not doing a rekkie trip so to have more money when we get there, anywhere has to be an improvement on UK but we can always move if we are desp unhappy.

Have you decided where you want to go?
