Hi All,

Now this may seem a silly question to some but to me its very important indeed!!

Is there any Indian Restaurants in or around Perth?? And are they up to UK standard??

This could be the deciding factor as to where we settle ?? SOD the schools etc!! ( Im joking ) LOL

Come on then you PerthPoms speak to me!! Need to know coming over next year.

Dave

Hi Dave,

been here 17 months now and still have not found a good curry house :arghh:. OH has had an ok Vindaloo but I like mild, tika Masala my favourite.

Also side dishes like Bombay Potatoe are serve as a main.

Maybe I'm just fussy but we come from SE London where theres a good curry house on every corner!!!

I'm still looking though in the hope theres a good one out there:biggrin:

We don't go out for curry much but people say they're not the same as the UK ... but they're probably catering for a different taste. When I have curry cooked by Indian friends - it doesn't resemble anything I had in the UK ... which had developed for UK taste rather than being authentic I guess.

We came over from Crystal Palace so had Mirch Masala in Tooting not far away as well as some other top curry houses.

Not found anything resembling a UK ruby yet but for me it's not necessarily a bad thing as the alternatives here are different but good.

There's an Indian cafe at Canning Market that's supposed to be good but I've yet to try it. There's a place in Willetton we've tried but didn't rate. Check out Urban Spoon for ratings and reviews.

The one in Willetton is called Samson's Jolly Good Indian. The staff are really lovely and it's been decorated well but the food was just a little bland. The fish curry was good but the chicken curry was just a blander version of the same, bit like chicken in gravy. It wasn't bad and I'd probably go back to try something else in the hope that it improves and they were very happy to adjust the dishes for our taste but when I asked for something hot it really wasn't at all.

The one at Canning Market is Janani Bhavan and some friends went and they really rate it and it's dirt cheap. It's more canteen style than restaurant so if you turn up in your best whistle you might look a little out of place.

Not tried the Elephant Hut but each time I've been past there have been people in there and it smells good.

Jeez, I want a curry now.

Peanut Masala to start with a mountain of popadums, mango chutney and lime pickle. Then fish or prawns in a sour and hot sauce of some kind, a chilli naan, some daal and maybe some chilli paneer

I cook a mean chilli paneer and a lovely beetroot and coconut curry. I love a big bowl of soupy fish curry and know a good recipe for that adapted from Jamie Oliver of all people.

Maybe we should organise a Pommie curry-fest somewhere?

Right, where are the car keys, I'm off to find lunch.....

Well im glad im not the only one!!!!! We are South Londoners too ( Brockley later moved to kent ) and you are spoilt for choice slightly. Its a wonder that one of the great restaurant owners in england havent spotted the gap in the market over there and started too cater for us Poms! We need our Curry on a Friday evening for GOD sake!!

Keep the suggestions coming im taking notes, Many thanks.

Dave
