Guest texasaggie
Woohoo!! We get on the plane (Singapore Airlines) in less than 48 hours to begin our life in Perth!! We have spent the week giving our farewells to friends and families. The hardest to leave behind is our daughter who is in year 2 at university. She has been so excited about the move and her opportunity to visit us on holiday and meet Aussie boys with accents. However, this weekend she suddenly had a little melt down about our move. I guess no move, no matter how far the distance isn't easy. Even though she knows she will be visiting us in about 7 weeks for the Christmas holidays, the sudden realization that we won't see each other for awhile upset her. She attends university a couple hours drive from our home and we have gone weeks and weeks without seeing her. It was an unexpected reaction. Her reply to us for her reaction was that now she just can't come home and get a hug. That just melted my heart. Our son will be living in our house while we are gone so she can still come home. But, she said it just wouldn't be the same without us. I hope to meet some of you some day soon!! Cheers!!

Once your daughter has her holiday at xmas she will be all the better for seeing you, mind you i reckon it's going to a wrench for her to leave such a lovely place and all the cute fella's with accents. LOL. I shall be leaving a daughter behind also even though she is now married it dosen't make it any easier. She liked Perth and would have moved but her hubby has a big family here in the UK and he couldn't leave them. I just hope i get to see her every year on holiday. All the very best on your new life down under. Ann

ali
Safe journey. I think the moment of departure is a very difficult one because whilst everyone knows it's happening it suddenly becomes a reality. I rember my dad cried ... only ever seen that happen twice in my life and it had me in tears too. Rather an old fashioned suggestion - but send your daughter postcards of the places you're going to take her - one a week until she gets there, seeing a picture, knowing someone has chose it and seeing your handwriting are things that will make her feel closer. Emails are great, quick and easy but there's still something about getting a postcard/letter. Let us know how you're getting on - and your daughter being here for Xmas will be wonderful. As an add on, my daughter is in year 11 and we went to a couple of open days at Uni here and some of them offer exchange to America (having a semester in USA or Canada is something my daughter is interested in) .... perhaps that's something your daughter could look into at her Uni - if there is a semester exhange with a uni here in Perth? Guest texasaggie
Thanks Ali. She is definitely interested in doing a semester abroad. She hasn't decided where she would like to go yet. We used to live in Indonesia when she was younger so she has been to several countries in south east Asia. She is majoring in chemical engineering at Texas A&M University. They have a couple of locations specifically for engineering. However, they are not places she would necessarily want to go. She is looking into doing some volunteering over one of her summer breaks instead.
