Guest evans3079
Hi Guys, My name is Nick, I'm a 31 year old married father of 3 who has left a well paid Senior Logistics job, Upped sticks (with the wife's approval of course!!!) and relocated to Perth on a Working Holiday Visa. I've been here for a month absolutely love the place and am certain that this is the place for me and my family. I'm worried about work (still have a family and mortgage to pay for at home!) I am desperate to get a 457 and/or other sponsorship offer but I don't know what I am doing wrong.....I have had 0 replies from job applications!! My resume is good, I am VERY experienced in my role (+10 years) and I think I can display a high level of commitment (just ask my wife!!) My job title is also on the WA government list..(Supply and Distribution Manager) I would like any pointers or if anybody can offer any advice on securing that much coveted 457 I will be most appreciative. I guess its just daunting and I have questioned whether or not I have taken the right path?? I just thought it would show real drive by getting off my couch and getting down here to secure what I have wanted for years! I look forward to any replies...... portlaunay
Network, network, network. This place is very much about who you know. It is estimated that around 70% of all vacancies never reach advert. It's not uncommon to get in on a temp 6 month contract so that you can then switch to permanent without all the recruitment costs and hassle for the employer. (They can also ditch you if it doesn't work out of course), this obviously won't happen on a 457 though. In my experience recruitment agencies are the same the world over so don't hold your breath there. If I were you I'd be researching who the good employers are and picking up the phone. It is very relaxed here so don't be afraid to find the most appropriate contact and ask for 15 minutes of their time. I'd be surprised if your CV will ever create a role, no matter how good it is but a phone call might leave someone thinking "we could do with a guy like that" Finally most people think WA stands for Western Australia when in fact it is Wait Awhile. You WILL find something, look left field a bit, it will just take time. Good luck
Guest evans3079
Thanks very much for the advice....I was starting to think it was a waiting game. I'm glad that employers are relaxed about telephone contact here because that is certainly something that I will be doing in the morning!!! Thank again, Nick

Every time I look on t'internet there always appears to be no vacancies despite hearing that they are desperate for specialist nurses. When i get there I will definitely take your advice and contact the Theatre Managers by phone. irishpom
