Guest MaddyOZ
Hi All, Any ICT professionals moved to perth recently and living in Victoria park? If so, can you please advise about the job market in Perth and the locality, life style around the Victoria Park suburb? Accommodation -> 2B House getting @ 300 AUD per week is a fair expectation? Cheers.
Guest Ellie
Hiya - cant advise on the ICT side of things but live up the road in Rivervale so can comment on the locality. It's a pretty awesome area - vic park has everything you'll need and the city is so close. Lots of nice restaurants in vic park with a very Asian influence. Burswood casino is just up the road and it's nice to walk along the river there too. I only work down the road in Kewdale so I love living so close to work but sometimes (coming from a seaside town) I feel like I'm a bit too far from the ocean (even though it's a 15 min drive!) - vic park feels more like city living. Not sure about your expectations on rental properties, might get something a bit run down for that. Perth is very expensive to rent and (most of) vic park is an affluent area so you're prob looking for about $450-$500 min for something decent. Hope that helps - just let me know if you have any more questions! Ellie

My budget is 350$ per week and I am single, so don't mind going for a shared acco initially as well. Mostly my workplace will be in CBD and anywhere close to 30 to 40 mins travel by Train / self drive should be OK for me to commute everyday to office. So your expert advise will be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
Guest Hassan
Dear MaddyOZ; Welcome to perthpoms.....I might have seen you on expatforum....isn't it? Anyway I want to know the reason of your pinpointing vic park as the potential living area? As a rule of thumb the farther you go from CBD the rentals will drop down accordingly......most of people in perth(as per my knowledge) live in suburbs as far as 50 KM depending on their means and transport facilities ....furthermore areas facing beaches are costlier than the one's on the opposite side.... When are you moving to perth?please share your plans..... Thanks. Thanks a lot Ellie. Would you please suggest any suburbs near by Vic Park? phil
I'm in IT. And living in Vic Park. Depending on what kind of IT role you're after, there's seemingly lots of jobs available. Vic Park suits us just fine - shops, cafes, pubs, parks, close to the river, close to the city. But may not be to everyone's taste (our neighbours hate it for some reason - why they don't move I don't know). I'm not sure what sort of place $300/week will get you. But have a look around homehound.com.au and realestate.com.au to get an idea.

I might not go for buying a car immediately, so anywhere which is assessable to Transperth Bus or Trains or even ferries in 30 /40 mins to office in CBD would be helpful. Cheers. If its a train line you need to be on then maybe try a bit further out in Cannington or something (still only about 15mins on train to CBD). Any suburb around Vic Park can be very expensive as they are up and coming areas and are very close to the CBD. Maybe if you don't mind an apartment then you will have more luck in and around Vic Park for that price - have a look on realestate.com but as you can see, the houses for that budget aren't anything flash. Just let me know if you need any more help!

phil
Have a look at where the train lines that go into the CBD are. They were a major factor when we were trying to decide where to live. Different people will have different needs/expectations, and hence opinions, of different areas so you'll need to bear that in mind. For us, we wanted to be close to the CBD (either walk, bike, train or drive) with pubs/eateries and shops nearby. Weren't fussed about the whole "North/South of the river" argument. We looked at Maylands as well as Victoria Park - might be another suburb to check out.
