Guest chezzle
Just wondering how many of you found and secured an employer for a 457 visa? Recruitment agency sites or did you go over and meet in person?? Would you recommend going over first and looking for and meeting potential employers or have many of you secured jobs from home?? tomabbie
It really depends on what your profession is. I'm a midwife who has secured 457 sponsorship and I did it by email my cv direct to the heads of midwifery at hospitals where I wanted to work, got a lot of positive responses and telephone interviews. I'm not sure if it's similar fir non health jobs but am sure somebody else will be able to help you. Kirstie x
New Life Down Under
I agree with the previous post, it is dependant upon your skills whether or not you can get sponsorship from overseas. Currently medical and engineering staff are still in high demand. Presumably you have checked to see whether or not your occupation is on the 457 list? You may find a position on http://www.seek.com.au but also try speccing out your CV to relevant organisations/employers. Good luck
Guest irishpom
There is the Opportunities Overseas Expo (www.expo-australia.com) seminar/exhibition where there are different trade representatives who could perhaps offer advice. The next one nearest to me is 19th/20th November (Manchester) and there will be representative from Western Australia government (according to the blurb on the website). Have a look at the site to see if this would be of any use to you. Cost to attend = £15, which I know is steep considering they are charging exhibitors also! Hope this helps. jellytots
We are currently going through the 457 visa process and my OH managed to secure a job from the UK...it wasn't easy...but it is possible. Do a lot of research about your profession in Oz and find the best place for it in the country, Perth wasn't our 1st choice location but because of my OH's job (engineering/science) it was the best place to go. (Plus now we have found out more about Perth we love the sound of it!!). Apply for as many jobs as you can on Seek and the other job websites ....even apply for the ones that say you have to have the right to already work there as some companies will sponsor you if you have the right skill set for them and even if they don't it's another person who might know someone, who might know someone else who might know someone who needs you! Get intouch with some recruitment agencies ie Hays etc as they might be able to help point you in the right direction and in our experience have all been friendly and helpful (I know it's there job and it's how they make money.....but they seem geniune and have always answered our questions). It's not a quick process and you do have to put the effort in...lots of effort...(and lots of getting up a silly o'clock to speak to people)BUT it is worth it if you really want to move and think that an employer needs your skill set. Good Luck with it all!
