hi everyone , me , my husband and our 2 children jasmine 9 and jack 6 are thinking of moving to perth, we have our visa we got it about 14 months ago we planned on moving to adelaide last year , did our trip out there but we just did'nt think it was the right place for us, we decided on adelaide because we both had family there and thought it would have been easier to settle but it just was'nt to be, anyway we came home bought another house and tried to forget about it but we can't ! we still want to leave this country for the same reasons as before to try and give our 2 great kids a better life, we will have all the trouble of telling our familys about it again but we will cross that bridge when we come to it ! :rolleyes:we just dont want to miss this great oppotunity having worked so hard to get the visa we would just like some honest opinions on perth if you could, any comments good or bad would be great thanks to you all for taking the time to read my post, hope to be back soon . michelle and fam xxxx

Hi michelle and family,

I would say personally Perth is a much more family orientated place than Adelaide, i had friends who recently visited me in perth from there and they said it seemed nicer-also alot greener due to water ban in adelaide!

You should definatly try it here or else you will always be wondering-and you already have the visa which is great!

Hi Michelle, we have thought the same as you. We have only just started the visa application and we were intent on moving to Adelaide to start with. But after (alot) of research on here and pomsinoz, we have decided on Perth. We have a son and daughter the same age as your kids aswell! Emilys 9 and Matthews 6. Just think Perth will be better workwise and for the kids.

Good luck with it all, dont blame you for wanting to leave to give your kids a better life, we've said the exact same thing!

Best wishes

Kirsty

Hi Michelle

Perth is a beautiful place - large open roads, clean streets, friendly people, and fantastic beaches. Only down side we found on our trips over here was that nightlife is a little lacking in some areas. Most of the shops and restaurants were closed by 10, and you had to go into the "city" (Joondalup) for a night out. Any ideas which area of Perth you want to go to?

Hi Michelle

I guess which suburb is really down to personal choice but we really liked Quinns rocks, Joondalup, Mindarie and Hillarys areas. All have good schools and are not too far from the city (max 45 min by car). We are now planning on moving further south but haven't made our minds up how far as we have only ben as far as Freo. Think a reccie is the best idea for anyone planning on emmigrating. We should have our visa soon fingers x so keep in touch and I'll show you around when your over for your reccie if you like.

Perth is a fantastic place to bring up children. it does take a bit of getting used to upon first arrival. We arrived here as a family 19 years ago, our boys were aged 1, 3, and 4 so it was a real struggle at first. Now 19 years later we often talk about how glad we are we didn't throw in the towel when things got tough, and return back to our council house estate in the gloomy north west of England.

It was tough when we first arrived, I had what was deemed to be a funny Lancashire accent, i couldn't get a job because 40 years of age was deemed to be too old!!!! We absolutely hated it........... but ........ we persevered and have no regrets whatsoever.

The three boys have all done very well. They went to East Wanneroo Primary School. which was excellent, then all three went to Woodvale Snr High. At Woodvale they run a mining course for the kids and that paid off as Sean went to Uni and ended up at the mining school in Kalgoorlie. Now with his Degree earned, Sean is on top dollar based at Mt Newman with BHP.

Scotty started out with me in the family real estate company; but he too decided to go work in the mines and he is now a manager up at Murrin Murrin. Glen is doing his final year at TAFE after which he will be qualified to work offshore in the oil & gas industry.

Had we gone back home to Preston i am pretty sure the same opportunity would not have presented itself and i doubt very much we would have done as good over there as we have done down under. Really speaking, i guess it boils down to how much the individual puts into it? It can be tough over here, but, if you are prepared to give it a go ..............you can't go wrong.

I have a lot of friends and clients who are originally from Adelaide; and in their opinion Perth is much better so i would say you are making the right move.

Good luck with everything.

Hi Michelle & Family

I think you are making the right move. I have been pleading with my family to make the move to Perth for years. We are just waiting the sale of our house as we have our visas in the box just waiting to be activated. Perth is a fabulous place. We like you went for a holiday to 'sort things' out before we took the plunge. It is more relaxed a bit slower than I imagine Adelaide to be. Having been to Sydney Perth is the place to bring families up. I sometimes think I am a bit naive but I did not see any violence either. So fab for child rearing! Sadly my kids now 23, & 29 do not want to come as they have there own lives here. However, our daughter is going on her own Visa. We both cannot wait to get there actually to start our new lives. Good Luck I hope you like it.
