Guest FamilyLynch
Hello All, I am a Oncology Nurse here in the UK and am seriously considering relocating to Perth. Originally we were going to go for a permanent visa however I was wondering.... How likely is it that I could get sponsorship from a Perth hospital? I have been looking at jobs but haven't seen any Oncology ones but could be looking in the wrong places?! This makes me worry that there isn't much demand for Oncology nurses? I am a clinical nurse specialist here but I would be prepared to go back to an oncology ward or chemotherapy unit etc if it secured me a visa. What is your experience? Any Oncology Nurses made the move? I also have palliative care experience and would be happy to do this also if this was more in demand. Thanks for any advice! tomabbie
Hi I don't think you should have a problem getting sponsorship with your experience or skills. You may just have to take a step back to get where you want to be (Australia) initially. I'm a qualified nurse midwife and health visitor and am currently working as a specialist midwife for teenage pregnancy here in the uk but have managed to get sponsorship as a midwife in a Perth hospital, they are currently developing services and very interested in my skills and experience but as a rule they don't tend to interview/offer senior jobs via telephone Skype interviews. It's a matter of getting the sponsorship and getting out there, finding your feet and then going for something more up your street. The pay is so much better anyway, will be getting £15000 more equivalent than my current band 7 for less responsibility. I just sent my cv in to all the hospitals I was interested in and went from there, would definitely recommend getting yourself registered with APHRA first as they take forever (just like the NMC) as that's the only thing holding my visa hope. If you need any help don't hesitate to ask Kirstie x

I'm RSCN and H.V but don't really want to go on sponsorship as would need to do shifts, (and my husband works away so no child care) but was hoping to swap to the community as soon as I was there. Very difficult decision, congrats on your job, and good luck with APHRA. Michelle
ali
I don't think you would be able to just swap roles - you would be able to apply for vacant positions as they arose, quite often health services put out EOI's (expressions of interest) to cover long service leave, mat leave etc.,
