Guest theconnells
Hi, We are The Connells (Jacki, Kevin and Sean) and arrive in Perth on 1st August this year from Aberdeen, Scotland. We are looking for a short term furnished rental within 20km of Perth CBD, for a month or so until we can decide which suburb to settle in. Either north or south of the river. We are undecided where to stay; we have a son who will be 12 years old in July and our priority is settling him at a good school. Any advice on good schools would be very welcome.Sean is into football, tennis and plays the drums! We will both be looking for jobs, Kevin is a Technical Graphic Designer in the oil/gas industry and I am a Travel Health Nurse...any contacts welcome! Looking forward to making lots of new friends and enjoying our new life. Jacki

Jacki I recommend Woodvale Senior High School north of the river which is where our 3 boys went. They have a Football (proper football, ie soccer) Academy there, and they also run a musical scholarship which is what our lads went on as we lived outside the catchment area. Woodvale also run a course connected with the mining industry. Both our eldest sons Scott and Sean participated in same and did work experience underground at several minesites up the bush. Sean is now a qualified metallurgist resident up at Mt Newman after doing 4 years at Uni. Scott is a manager up at a minesite named Murrin-Murrin. Both are also accomplished musicians thanks to teachings at Woodvale. Our other lad Glen wasn't interested in the mines, he is currently doing his last year at TAFE on an oil & gas course. To give you some idea of distance; our lads went to Woodvale when we lived in Wanneroo which was roughly a 10 minute drive to school. When we moved up to Carramar that became a 20 minute drive depending on traffic and copping green lights on Jooondalup Drive, at Wanneroo shops, and Ocean Reef Rd. Good luck. Guest theconnells
Thank you so much for your reply. We have looked at Woodvale High School and thought it sounded like a good school as did our son when we told him it had soccer on the curriculum! He is also about to sit his first drum exam and is keen to learn the guitar....electric of course! Your sons all sound very successful which is good to know as I have heard the education system is very different to here. Woodvale sounds a lovely area but I have my heart set on a new house!, are there any catchment areas for the school where there are new houses or land to build on? How long does it take to travel into the CBD from this area? Sorry questions questions! Thanks Jacki

Thanks Jacki Hocking is a newer suburb with loads of building activity going on; it's a 5 minute drive from Woodvale School. There's a lot of new building activity at nearby Pearsall adjacent to Regent Waters in Wanneroo (a bit too close to busy Ocean Reef Road for my liking). Further up north you have suburbs like Ashby, Tapping and Carramar ........ all which have vacant land for sale and building projects going on. Woodvale itself is an older but nice enough suburb; house prices are a tad high though. The music side of Woodvale School was very good; our lads were able to see a lot of Australia as members of the school band. They did tours of Tasmania and the eastern states performing in tournaments; they even had a side trip arranged to the MCG, which is somewhere I haven't even been. Guest mattandsam
Hi Jacki, My partner has a home for rent furnished $600 pwor unfurnished $430pw - 4x2 in Quinns Rock - it will be available from July 08. It is 20 minutes north of Woodvale, close to trains, hospitals, private schools and 5 minutes walk to beach. It is a fairly new modern spacious home. If you intend on building here in Perth it will take at least 12 months for something to be ready. If you are interested please get back in contact. Good luck, Steve
Guest theconnells
Thanks Steve will look on the site. Most of what we have seen so far seems expensive for short term rentals! Good luck with your move Thanks again Jacki
