Hi, i posted the other day but i was kind of in a panic so didnt properly introduce myself or anything, so apologies for that :)

my husband is starting work in perth today. i am still in dublin with our two beautiful little monsters, girls aged 3 & 1. we are flying out april 26th and we are considering rockingham as our new home.

this is dream come true for us. like the rest of you we have been working towards this day for years. its almost 7 years to the day since we got back from our WHV and it feels like every decision we have made has been taken with today in mind. can't believe its actually happening to be honest.

the only thing im worried about really is the flight with two kids on my own! but its only 26 hours, i'll survive. right????

really hope we make some friends here, and not too many of u have been put off by my rather frantic first post!

talk soon :)

Hi Jen,

I will be in your position shortly, my husband will be leaving for his new job in a few weeks while me and my three kids follow a couple of months later. Same as you, I'm not looking forward to the flight! At the minute I'm definitely in frantic/panic mode also, it's all happened quite quickly here.

I have been looking at Rockingham too, it looks lovely :) Hope your husband enjoys his first day at work, mine can't wait for his new job to begin!

Karen.

thanks girls :)

Karen, my friend told me bachs rescue remedy for kids is a lifesaver and she suggested packing ten or so small toys in wrapping paper and letting them open one every half hour. worth a try i guess!

This^

I did it with my 8 and 4 year old and it passed uneventfully and quickly. Singapore Air were great but then we did break the journey with 5 days in Singapore which is great if you can do it. (My wife flew back from here to surprise us).

I took little packs of lego, colouring books, toys, playdoh and ipads, ipods, kindle's and laptops; I looked like a walking Apple Store.

The b*****ds ignored everything and watched films, slept, ate and played games on the in-flight entertainment.

We landed in Singapore and they screamed, argued and fought their way through arrivals and just when I was about to sell them, my wife was smiling at us from the other side of immigration.

Twas great.

I have a friend who swears by BRR too, I had no idea you could get a kids' version?! Definitely something to try! And love the wrapping idea too :)

Hi Jenny,

We are moving bk to Perth( safety bay/waikiki) area on April 11th. Which is just next to Rockingham.

We moved out last year on a 457 but had to come bk to the Uk as i have been ill, but cant wait to get bk, my hubby works in Subiaco and has been flying between Aus and the Uk for the last few months. We have a 3 and 1 year old and have done the flights 3 times in the last year with no probs it will fly by!!

We know the area a little bit so if you need any help or fancy meeting up once yous are settled let me know.

thanks for the warm welcome everyone! hubby started work today, went really well and he has somewhere nice to reside till we get there and ruin his single life (again!)

christine, me and u are about too become best mates! seriously tho, i would love to get in touch in perth, esp since the kids are the same age. glad u are well enough to travel back to oz.

karen, my friend says that brr is brilliant, the kids one is new apparently. she says its like turning the volume down. so my two should become a dull scream.

portlaunay, your wife sounds like a legend. what a lovely surprise for all of u. i am secretly hoping my hubster takes me to margaret river the weekend we arrive. i have the reaccuring nightmare that im in australia but cant get to margaret river. weird i know.

3 year old wide awake here beside me. so putting a few random emoticons for her amusement :):swoon::cute:

Hi Karl,

he is in refrigeration and we basically sent cvs to all the jobs advertised on seek.com.au but never heard a reply. i googled 'refrigeration jobs australia offering sponsorship' and found the advertisment for the job he got on page 4 of google. it was on an irish jobs website. so my advice would be to search the english job search engines and keep trying. call companies in oz and talk to as many people as u can. dont give up!

Bloody buggery I have a very emotional 2 yr old! I told my OH today that we ought to buy an Ipad as she loves her friends! Just to travel out with he nearly crashed the car, maybe BRR is the future :) x
