danmon
Hello everyone, I'm heading out to WA in a few weeks and for the first month or so and I've been placed in a serviced apartment in Fremantle before I head south to Bunbury to start fending for myself. I land in the evening and start work the very next day so I'll need to get some food in the cupboards quite quickly. Does anyone know where's good to get food and normal day to day living stuff that's not too expensive. I don't want to buy from the nearest shop to my digs and then find out I could have got it for half the price just around the corner. I'll be down by the harbour so I am assuming it will be quite expensive but I'm by myself for the first couple of weeks before the rest of my family fly out and the shopping bill quadrouples. Also, are there any rugby clubs in the area ? Any advice would be appreciated
Scot01
Fremantle Markets are open Fri to Sunday and half of it is fruit and veg and a good bakers stall. If you go on a Sunday about 4pm you can pick up all your fruit and veg for the week as they cut the prices significantly - same with the bread stall. If you are down by the Harbour you'll be near E Shed Markets that are all toursit type stalls but they have a good food hall - lots of stalls selling Asian food and it's cheap - you could get a bowl of noodles for lunch for under $10. There use to be a really good Indian stall there run by an Indian from Glasgow - only place I could find a really good 'Scottish" pakora but not sure if it is still there. Fremantle has a Target which would be good for things like towels etc - it's a bit like UK Woolies in terms of what it stocks as well as cheap clothes. Freo has also got a great Good Sammy shop - charity shop. It is one of the largest ones. For hsoue hold things I always start at Good Sammy if I need anything then work up to Red Dot (cheap crap) and Target (or Kmart but not sure there is one in Freo). General food there is a Coles not far from the station. Sorry, can't help you on rugby!
portlaunay
There's Peaches the organic store, sth Freo on Hampton road and there's an IGA next to it. TBH we avoid the supermarkets and use the market or the Italian store on Wray Ave. Frank next door on Wray does the best steak I've ever eaten. Then there's Sea Lanes at the end of Marine tce for seafood. Don't sweat it. There are loads of good restaurants in Freo and most coffee bars open around 6. Everything will seem expensive when you get here but you soon relax when you start earning $au
