Gas Fitter: Valid Gas Ticket for arriving in Perth

Hi guys :)

My husband is a Plumber/Gas Fitter, he has two TRA's, one for each profession (long story). His Gas Ticket's five years are up in April so he will have to do the refresher course before he can work with Gas again. He booked his course months ago for start of April, at the time we were supposed to be emigrating in October but have now booked flights for 2nd July. Since the course costs £1200, we are wondering if he needs a valid Gas Ticket for when he arrives in Perth? If not having one is going to give the WA Plumbing Authority cause to be difficult with his registration then obv he will sit the course but it seems a waste of money when he is only going to be in the UK for 3 months after it - he will be working on a bathroom contract then so not even like he needs it for working with Gas here April-June. I said to him that he will be very likely not even working with Gas in Perth anyway, as Central Heating is not so common so he will prob be doing a lot of plumbing and pipe work but he is very wary of not having a valid ticket just in case - he has never been without one since he was a teenager! Any advice from Gas Engineer/Plumbers already out there who know the system/industry would be much appreciated

Hi,

you beat me to it, an excellent question.

im in the same boat, my gas ticket expires in June and were looking to move out next feb.

I don't feel the need to re new it or 6 months and as I run my own business I'm probably going to start to wind things down towards the end of this year, as I'm not expecting people to use me if I'm not here to guarantee my work.

hope ou get a lot of positive replies

Regards

ian

Yeah it's difficult to know what to do for the best ... Kev is self employed too so like you said, no point in doing heating systems etc if he won't be there for the gurantee .... hopefully someone knows the answer

I forgot to mention, that I e- mailed the WA plumbers licensing board today to try and clarify exactly what we have to do to work as a plumber etc on arrival in Perth.

I've heard so many stories from $3 k courses over 10 days to yearly courses.

ive been talking with a plumber on this site who moved over early feb and he said that the cousre he's going to do is $ 600 and he had 4 job offers in a few weeks, so things looking ok on The front.

i just wish they would come out and say what is required from us, they take the money and our time getting a visa to be told sorry your not qualified to work over there.

Another member posted that they install their gas pipes in cavities and bury them about 50 mm below the ground on a drive,

Cheers

Hi there

My OH is also a plumber & gas engineer. He was advised by an expat gas fitter in oz to have all his tickets up to date apparently it does help. He has just completed his 5yr gas tickets which as you said cost a fortune but had to do it to carry on working until we move.
