We flew with Singapore who were excellent, we've previously flew with Emirates .. again excellent. My dad has flown with Qantas/BA .. he liked Qantas but was glad he BA was only a connecting from Manchester to London (this was the first time he visited Aus), he wouldn't use them again, He's also flown Emirates and Singapore - wasn't much to choose, but liked Singapore slightly better. He's in his 70's and I think they just had a little more of a personal touch and looked after him.

We just booked with Singapore - were going with Emirates originally but we made a great saving with Singapore, plus if you have an unstamped permanent visa they give you double baggage allowance so we all, kids too, get 40kg x

Hi, we've booked with Singapore, flew with them last year from Bangkok and there were very good. Also just booked my daughter n grandchildren with Qatar, who we have flown many times with and they are very good. Also flown many times with Emirates who again are very good. I think a lot of these Asian airlines know how to make your flights enjoyable....and we have always been a large family group and never had any problems with any of them...

If it's for an emigration flight with a permanent visa, check what baggage allowance you're allowed as the policy varies wildly between airlines.

We flew Singapore from Heathrow with a couple of hour stopover in Singapore (long enough to get a shower in one of the lounges and stretch legs). For the first part of the journey, Singapore have an economy section at the back of the top of their A380's where there's only two seats between window and aisle, with an extra storage locker. Made it more pleasant. Check out seatguru.com.

Also, consider the arrival time. We found that arriving late afternoon on a Friday was useful - gave us a weekend to recover before starting any of the many "on arrival" tasks.

Good point Phil, we did the same, it cost us a little extra, but we wanted to land in the afternoon rather than in the middle of the night.

We flew with our two young children with Emirates. Would definately fly with them again. The only thing we didnt like was that they gave my youngest son a jar of baby food instead of a proper meal. He was 23 months at the time and ended up eating half of his brothers meal! But now that he is over two we would have to pay for his seat and he would get a proper meal so no issue!

My in laws came over Christmas with Quantas. They were quite delayed during their stop-over but got a great deal and had no other problems. Plus Quantas have a great safety record which I think counts for more than anything else! Lol!
