Hi All,

Thought I would just introduce myself.

We currently live on the Isle of Wight. Our application is being based on my husbands Accounting qualification and as we specifically want to live in Perth, have been advised our best route is a 176 State Sponsorship.

Having read the various comments regarding should or shouldn't you use an Agency (and having attended a recent exhibition called 'Live down under') we decided with the new July criteria looming our best option was to go with an Agent - so chose Go Matilda (so far they've been excellent and quick to respond to the simplest of questions).

My husband is sitting the IELTs Academic (his qualification requires Academic as opposed to General) this Saturday and if all's well, his skills will be assessed by ICAA (Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia).

It's not easy being mathematically minded and being expected to sit an English Test.

So please can everyone cross their fingers and toes for him on Saturday, I'd be truly grateful.

Will keep you posted of the outcome (assuming you want to know).

Hi there!

I grew up on the Isle of Wight! My family and I moved to WA in 2009 - we're both teachers and my husband was sponsored over by the Education Department. Moved to Joondalup (northern Perth suburb) just before Christmas and absolutely love it! Hope all is going well with your application.

Hi Cathy,

Bizarre Cathy I knew someone (through my son's swimming at the Heights) who moved in 2009 to Auz - although I have no idea where she moved to.............. is this you?

My husband sat his IELTS Academic Saturday and thinks he did quite well, but you just don't know until you get the result. Although the agent told us Simon should do quite well, apparently getting 8 out of 10 in all 4 modules is quite difficult.

So I guess it's just going to have to be edge of the seat stuff for the next 13 days until we get the result.

Mentally we are already in Perth as we've spent the last 2 years thinking should we/ shouldn't we. Losing my father in 2010 to cancer is what put our whole plan on hold and I can't believe just how quickly that time has gone!

Joondalup is an area I have been looking at myself.

Our son is 9 at present and schooling and a better outdoor lifestyle has been our sole driving force behind this.

I would be interested in keeping in touch with you periodically each time we get a step closer.

Thank you for your comment above, gives me more of a reason to want to be there.

Take care

Hi...we used Go Matilda and we are really pleased we did. They smoothed the way.

We are in a different position...I married an Aussie and I have just had my permanent visa granted so we will be moving to Perth before long....probably going to Mandurah.

We are fortunate in that our move is not job dependent.

Hi Danmon,

Wow it's quite amazing how many people are from this neck of the woods.

We are currently trying to obtain our 176, but have been advised by our agent that if this fails the only other option available to us is 457 (so I might be picking your brains at some point in the future if you don't mind).

Have a safe journey and enjoy life!

Hi, I used Go Matilda to and they were brilliant. I also live on the IOW with my husband and we hope to move to Perth as soon as we can sell our house !!! Good luck with your move and maybe we could all keep in touch as there seem to be a few of us from here.

Hi all,

Yep, I'm another ex-Islander! Been here since the end of 2010. We used Go Matilda too, and they were great. We're also in the Joondalup area, and I was teaching on the Isle of Wight, but have put off returning to it for as long as possible, under the excuse of 'letting the children settle first!' That one's wearing a bit thin now, plus I'm getting bored!

Before we moved over we heard that there was a real ex-Isle of Wight community SOR, but it seems like we're catching up up here!

Hi Elsie3,

Wow, I'm quite stunned at how many of us are from the IOW! Really glad to hear you're already over there and in Joondalup area (one of the areas I have been looking at myself). We currently have our house on the market, although as you are probably aware the property market isn't great in the UK at the moment. The agent suggested we put it on at £x. Must admit, I think he's about £40K overpriced, but hey if he thinks he can get this amount I'm not complaining! When we're closer in the whole visa application, then we'll probably reduce to sell but until then my faith is in the estate agent (that's if you have faith in Estate Agents LOL!). Us Wighties must keep in touch.
