Guest JennyH
Reading reports that people have been queueing overnight in Co. Cork to get into the workingabroad expo. I was never really impressed by these expos but always went as i felt it went someway to getting me to oz. and here i am now with my visa approved, my house half empty and my husband working away in perth. how do i feel? like i've won the lotto. so sparing a thought for the tens of thousands of irish people who will spend this weekend trying to get to where i am. don't give up guys! remember; the harder you work, the luckier you'll get :smile2:
ali
We never went to an expo Jenny, heard mixed things about them, plus we always seemed to see the advert the week after they'd been on lol. How's hubby settling in Perth
Guest JennyH
he's doing grand at the moment. has started looking for the holy grail, a resonably priced furnished 2 bed apartment with a six month lease. in east vic park. not asking much is it?? we always came away from those expos feeling deflated. weighted down with leaflets and email addresses of people who never replied to you. so glad those days are behind us now. one recruitment agent told us not accept any job unless they were prepared to pay all visa costs, flights for the whole family and accomodation on arrival. we knew that day what the chances of being offered sponsorship were so we basically ignored her. but i was imagining people turning down sponsorship after listening to her insane advice! piccolo
hi Jenny, we were at the Dublin one...it was craaaaazy, we stayed 2 hrs and left. Funny you should mention the advice that lady gave you as DH has been offered a 457 but they want us to pay for it. They'll pay for his flight, 2 weeks car rental and 4 weeks short term rental when we arrive.
Guest JennyH
Hey Piccolo, we paid for everything, but dh was already in oz when he got the visa. the company said that once his probabtionary period expires he will see an increase in wage to compensate for the initial expense. i was a bit wary of this at first but i spoke to an independent visa lawyer and she advised me that this is an increasing trend to safeguard against 'visa hopping' as it is costing some companies a lot of money to set people up only to lose them a few months later. sounds like u are getting a good deal there, i'd be grabbing it with both hands!
