Hi all this is my first post so sorry if this has already been asked

My OH is a mechanic so we going on 175 visa we are at the very beginning of this and I found out today that he needs to have his skills assessed by Victoria University NOT TRA as we thought and had started gathering all the info needed major headache that was, has anybody else gone down this path??????????

Also the cost is sooooo much more than TRA

At what stage in the process have people done there IELTS, this is the part I can't get my head around if your English and have qualifications beyond high school surely this is enough so does averyone have to do this exam?????

We are trying to do this without using an agent especially now the assessment fee is 6 times more than TRA

Thanks in advance for any info

Is the English language test a requirement of his occupation or is it possible that he needs it to make up the points required for the visa? My OH is doing his IELTS on April 21st and has to get an 8 I think to get 10 points. We are Irish so obviously fluent in English but he is still doing it for the points. So really it depends on how many points you have unless like I said, it's a req of his particular occupation.

I'm not sure on lead times for Victoria University but you could check their website. TRA sent us a letter saying it would be 60 days so maybe once you lodge with them, they'll write to you with expected lead times?

I know it's a minefield eh? And that's just the bloody skills assessment!!

It's madness Vic Uni state 7 weeks so should'nt be too bad just taken aback by how much more it costs, doing TRA would have been $300 but having to get assessed by Vic Uni will total $2200.

Having had some initial advice of an agent and point score I think OH has to do ILETS for extra points think gunna have to have another look into it

Are you doing it solo or have you appointed an agent?????
