Flying the dog from Sydney to Perth

Hi there,

We had to do exactly the same as we could not get our dog into quarantine in Perth so flew him from Uk to Sydney and then flew him across to Perth from Sydney. We used Jetpets and they were amazing I think it cost about $400 but I can't remember but I will check back my records and confirm for you. They were recommended to us by our UK shipping company. If you have not sorted out your UK shipping yet I can recommend Golden Arrow Shippers as they were wonderful and so thorough and made a horrendously traumatic time for us so much better.

I can also set your mind at rest about the quarantine in Sydney as the people that work at Eastern Creek are totally amazing and it is a fabulous place.

Can I also suggest if you haven't already thought of it using a company called DogWalks, just google them as they are amazing. They visit your pet as many times as they can get in 2-3 times a week usually and take a toy/treats and also exercise and groom them. We did this for our beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Bobby and he loved it and came out of quarantine with no ill effects at all. They post pictures of their visits onto your dog's own webpage on their site and also onto facebook so that you can tag your dog in them and your family and friends can see them too, which was amazing for us as we flew our dog from the UK before we came out and also my parents and sister were concerned about him so it was an easy way for us all to see that he was doing well. This service costs around $50 per week and is more than worth it I can assure you.

Hope this gives you useful info but if you need anything further just shout up

Maybe I'm missing something here but once a pet is in Australia there isn't quarantine restrictions. (you could just drive if you wanted!)

I know off people how simply book their pets as excess sized baggage and pick them up at the other end. You do need a suitable carrier etc.

Not entirely sure on all this but I that's what I've been told by a local. Maybe worth checking out.

We looked into flying over and collecting and bringing him back with us as an option - we didn't fancy the drive as thought it would be unfair on him after being in quarantine for so long to then be stuck in a car for days too....! It was gonna be pretty expensive to fly over and to fly him back as hand luggage he has to be under a certain size/weight restriction which he wasn't and he's not even a big dog. He is only a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and weighs 11 kilos but including his cage he was over the 20 k's restriction that Quantas have so would have to be air freighted anyway.

With this knowledge we then made the decision not to meet him in Sydney and then upset him by flying him as air freight again and just met up with him at Perth airport which was much less traumatic for all concerned I thought!

Do check out Quantas by all means though as their website give you lots of info about size/weight etc so if you have a small dog it may work for you

Thanks for the info, looks like we will have to send our Westie to Sydney as Perth is full till the end of April.

I am waiting on a quote from Jetpets and will also look into Dogwalks going in to visit him as we will not see him for a month.
