Guest woodymcfc
[h=2]Out of boundaries application for secondary college[/h] Hi all, not posted for a few week, as you can imagine there is still lots of forms to fill out, people to see and importantly having to find the best deals in the liquor stores when you first arrive in Oz !!! Our daughter went back to primary school for yr7 here in Perth. We have started to look at secondary colleges and have found one that has a very good reputation, only thing is that it is just outside the catchment area, just being a road away !!! We can put a out of boundaries application in so we have got together all reports, certificates etc from her last years at primary school in the uk.. Do you think that we should also attach a covering letter ? If so what sort of detail should I put in it? Thanks ....
Scot01
I'd say definitely. Look at the school web site and see if you can pick up on things on there that you want for your daughter - particular subjects may be - have they got a strong music dept and she is musical, or sports teams? What about the school motto/philosophy - do they pride themselves on developing caring/independent students - what ever that is, say you want it! . Look at the other high schools nearby and think why you want this one - what has it got over the others specifically other than hearsay on it's reputation? Do most of the kids from the primary school go to this one and she wants to stay with her freinds - important having made the move from the UK to be with them (may be!). I would also add what the school will gain from having her there - if she has any particular strengths - so they'll read it and think 'we need her here, she'll be an asset to the school!' I had to write a letter to get into my son's school and it worked!
gobbyjock
Put in as much info as possible - it will probably be down to whether they have room - if they don`t have the room then it won`t matter how many streets away you are. If you do get turned down however (the school schould put it in writing and state the reasons why they are turning you down), you can push it with the Department of Education central office - not guaranteed to work but certainly worth a try.
