Guest Woo1982
Hi All, We have been granted a 176 visa and have been told by our agent that we don't have to have it evidenced in our passports as it is all online now. However, I've heard that if we do have it evidenced by Australia House it will be easier for us to get our Medicare sorted out, car hire/purchase etc. Has anyone got any advice on whether we should have it evidenced or not? I'd be grateful for any help! Wendy
bpremji
Hi Wendy, I personally have got mine and the family's done as I too have read the problems you can get when in Oz with medicare, driving licence etc.... If you are UK based it is free to have it done, you only need to pay for the postage both ways, which from what I can remember was only £11. So yes, I would put the label in your passport HTH Edited March 20, 2012 by bpremji
phil
Some airlines have a policy whereby they'll give you increased baggage allowance on your emigration flight, but you need to show the paper label. Worth checking - a few quid for postage to get a label that might give you double baggage allowance on your flight is probably worth it. http://www.uk.embassy.gov.au/lhlh/visaevid.html It's also useful for Medicare, driving licence, employers and the like. Chardy
Link for you Wendy, just done ours. Send Special Delivery with a prepaid Special Delivery envelope for them to return them, about £5 each way and a 4-5 day turnaround. http://www.uk.embassy.gov.au/lhlh/visaevid.html

phil
Check with driving license people - they changed the rules recently and in some circumstances insist on an original visa. Which as DIAC only issued ours via email made no sense. We had the labels so it was OK.
Guest Jillie14
I got turned away from the driving licence place a couple of weeks ago as I had my original visa, which they would not accept! - but not a sticker in my passport from immigration, the rules changed last year in September I think, so you do have to have the sticker in passport from immigration as the licence place do not have the facility to machine read it electronically! Hope this helps and good luck:wink:
Guest wolfy 1
we had to renew our children s passports after being here a year. and the new passports did not have the visa stamp in, we were told we would be charged to have the visa inserted if we wanted (quite expensive) so we said not just yet but we were advised that when we travel we must take their old passports too as we would need to show them at the desk outward bound as well as inward bound in order to prove they were permanent residents. It will be a nightmare if we forget. I think you best to have it but its probably at a price.

Guest milbony
We fly over from the UK 8/6/12 and havent been advised to get the visa label in our passports. It really doesn't sound like it is necessary, I'm just a little concerned about the people having problems though .
