Guest LIZAGARY
Hi Everyone My husband is a qualified mechanic [diesel, plant machinery] I have noticed a lot of jobs are asking for Trade Certificates. He has all qualifications example City and Guilds1,2 and 3 mechanic but we have been told we need to transfer these over how do we do this? We have already passed Skills Ass and are waiting on medical results and are looking to go to Oz in November. Can anyone give us any advice or know of anyone looking for mechanics, my husband will also work in the mines or workshop based. Thanks guys Liza

Guest emi-great
Hi guys You can go to the city to have your skills assessed to gain a certificate but probably your best bet will be to contact the following because motor repair shops have now become a licensed trade. Although at present mechanics do not have to be licensed unless they supervise other people I think it will eventually become a licensed trade. It would probably be to your advantage to apply for a license anyway, it is a fairly simple process at the moment & fairly cheap you simply send in police checks & copies of your trade certificates & the fee you ring the Department of Consumer Protection who will send you a booklet/forms etc. http://www.docep.wa.gov.au/ConsumerProtection/Content/Motor_Vehicles/Other_information/Licensing_of_motor_vehicle_rep.html We are in the trade & realise there is a shortage of both heavy & light vehicle mechanics. The Motor Trade Association is sending a rep to the UK to encourage mechanics out here so I dont think you would have any problem getting work. Of course if you want to earn the good money you need to work in the mines this suits some families but I think initially you would be better to find work in the local area where you decide to settle Eve http://www.emi-great.com
