Lara24
[h=2][/h] We are just about to submit our visa application after a year of costly re-traing and skills assesment for my husband but I am having major doubts about the move. At the moment my husband is home every night but once we are in Perth he is likely to be FIFO 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. We have a son who is 4 in July and a 6 week old baby. At the moment my eldest goes to nursery 5 hours a day Mon-Fri but I fear when we get to Perth (probably the end of the year) I will not be able to get him into something similar. We hope to live in the Burns Beach/Iluka/Ocean Reef area or possibly as far north as Mindarie. I have contacted St Mark's, Lake Joondalup Baptist and Peter Moyes and all have confirmed they have no spaces for next year. My understanding of the state school procedure is you need to apply for Feb 2013 Kindy this July which would mean not only having made the move but also be in zone - this will never happen. If I have that wrong please correct me. I know my baby is only 6 weeks old and things will get better but I just don't want to have to cope on my own while hubby is away with no nursery provision. I had really bad PND after my first son was born so am very conscious of anything that could set me back and not having family to call on in Oz is already a concern. Please forgive me, I know there are hundreds of Mum's coping with young children, no family support and have a husband working FIFO - I just don't know if I can be one of them. If anyone has info on private nurseries/daycare or has any suggestions of other schools to try I would really appreciate it. Many Thanks Lara

Guest Fruitysunshine
Hi Lara24I completely understand where you are coming from. 6 months ago Perth came a real possibility for us and here I am out here. In January my stress levels got so high my GP put me on Valium for a few days! She told me that this kind of relocation is right up there with bereavement and divorce so don't feel as if your feelings are unwarranted. I have 3 children aged 19, 11 and 4. I touched based with some independent schools prior to coming out here NOR and none had any space. I decided to wait until we got out here. Like you we were hoping to move to Burns Beach or Iluka. Anyway looked at a few properties around there but kept missing out. In the end we managed to get somewhere just outside Ellenbrook which is East of your desired location by about 30-40mins and it is beautiful. I can come straight off the Great Northern Highway onto the freeway to the airport for hubby and that is all the driving I need to do when DH is not here apart from the school run so the location works for us. We have an interview with a school week after next for our eldest daughter and our eldest will attend college in Joondalup. We have found a college that teaches from Kindy right up to A level age. We hope for our youngest to start at the same school as my elder daughter soon to. My husband is on a 3 on 1 off FIFO contract. I was very worried about being on my own for so long with the children but now I am out here and getting my bearings I feel more comfortable about doing all that now. Done the practise school run, found the local shops, looking forward to meeting mums and making friends when we move to our rental next weekend. It has helped that DH has been able to work from Canning Vale for the first few weeks whilst we got sorted. I too suffered from PND after my youngest was born and it took me 3 years to really recover from it. Now in my fourth year I just feel as if I am beginning to rebuild my confidence levels as a person and for the first time since even thinking about Australia I said to myself today "I think I can do this now." At least I am now prepared to try! There are a few websites which help with schooling one being www.aussiemove.com.au and the other being www.australianschooldirectory.com.au. also check out www.educationtaxrefund.gov.au. You are welcome to PM me if I can help you further or if you even want to stay in contact for when you arrive out here in the future. Many Thanks Lara Kindy doesn't work on boundaries as such as it is non-compulsory education. I can only comment on the school my children attend but they would take your application for Kindy for 2013 even if you weren't in the country. When offering places they select on the following criteria as usually the places are limited. In boundary with sibling, in boundary, out of boundary with sibling and then out of boundary. In the 6 years my children have been at the school they have not rejected anyone for Kindy in the July enrolment period. If you have a particular school in mind I suggest you make contact with them and explain. The schools in the area you are looking at are used to immigrants so they will understand where you are coming from.
