sashmavadia
Hi Jimm Am also in the IT profession, got my PR in Nov 2011 thru my OH who is a accountant by profession and we visited Australia in Dec 2011 for a holiday and also to activate our 175 visa. We have a daughter who will turn 2 in Dec. We want to move to Perth but want to make sure we can secure jobs before arriving there. Please advice were you successful in getting a job? We would be really greatful if you could share your experience. Thanks

Guest vinny1275
We met with some recruiters while we were out activating our visas in July. They said they had work for me if I could start in 3 days..... (I'm a systems admin) Their advice was to give them a couple of months notice of when you'll be out there, companies are much more willing to interview from overseas if they know you've already got your flights booked, etc. Ring round some of the bigger agencies (Hays, Hudson, etc.), speak to whoever recruits in your sector and start selling yourself. Get them to feed back on your CV, get them to give you an overview of the kinds of jobs going. From reading posts around the forums, chasing up applications (particularly after interviews) is pretty normal in Australia. Even if you find out you're not successful, you might stick in their minds for next time, or be able to get some feedback on why you weren't successful. Also, LinkedIn is quite widely used for IT recruitment - get yourself on there if you're not already, and start building up a network in Australia - link with people you've had dealings with, recruiters, etc., and you'll start to see people posting when they've got positions coming up.
