Im hoping that i will be able to find out lots of information via the forum as there is so much we have got to do and learn about between now and then and other people's experiences will be a help too!

Hope to hear from you all soon

You could help me pb1  what kind of place is Butler? We're a family of 3 with our daughter only being 18mths old so we'll be looking at somewhere that has things going on for me and her to do plus shops, cafes etc but more importantly work for my OH who is a builder. Could Butler offer what we are looking for?

Hi pb1,

I have been to Butler in 2010 and found it to be lovely. I love the lifestyle and the trends that seem to be there, cafe's, bars, restuarants, and the harbours! How do you find living there? have you been there long?

Well done, You must be over the moon!

Hope you get the advice you are looking for and Good luck for your move in September.

How long did it take for you and your O/H to get your visa?

We are looking in to moving to Oz but have no idea how long it will take or how much it will cost.

Any advice would be gratefully received

Hi LoveO (great name btw)!

We are deffinately over the moon, but still in shock! its took us 4 years from the point of beginning to think about it to actually nearly taking the leap! The only reason we begun to think about moving was my OH brother already lives out there with his gf and her family and they have been there for 6 years now. After a holiday to see them in 2010 my OH applied last April and has just had his visa granted last week so a whole year more or less. The hardest part we found was the TRA form (Trades Recognition Australia) you have to fill this in before applying for a visa.

My OH has applied for a GSM (General Skilled Migration Visa) which gives him pernament residency. He's a gas fitter so his occupation is in demand. The TRA we found extremely difficult as we had no help or support with it, it was just a guessing game. Long story short, the TRA form came back unsuccessful a few weeks later due to not having enough evidence to meet requiremnts of what the form was asking. In the end we decided to go with an agent, and thats the best advice i can give you! We paid him intially £500 to go through all of our paper work for the TRA and he found all the bits that we had left out and told us were we had gone wrong. It also cost us to send the TRA form off ($300 i think) but second go was free. It did take alot of the stess away using an agent becuase they know everything to do with visas and paperwork inside and out! lol We just made the visa application cut off date by 1 day..skin of our teeth to say the least, as the rules and regs change every 1st July (keep that in mind). We have found the actually visa process straight forward and once we heard from the processing officer its been all systems go! Its the TRA that was the hardest part for us.

The visa itself for my OH has cost us £1500 then my OH had to pay for a medical ($300) and 2 Police checks! Im going on a working holiday visa which is costing us another £400 and ive also had to to have a police check dne too (£60)! it is very expensive, not to mention all of the additional cost once visas arrive of shipping costs, flights etc I think it is deffinalty worth all the cost and im not even there yet lol! What occupations have you both got? I dnt really know alot about other visas but i have been told that there are loads of different kinds, but i think it all depends on your occupations and you family circumstances as to which visa best suits you. If you can go on a hoiliday there too it does go well when your applying for a visa. If you want my agents name and details i can PM you?

If you can go with an agent i would everytime unless you know someone who can help you. Hope this is helpful. If you want any more info giv me a shout:biggrin: This forum is brilliant and everyone is so helpful and other peoples experiences will also help you too.

Good Luck!

Hi Kat

Your so helpful! Thank you so much for all the advice

My Husband is a solid plaster, but can put his hand to any thing. I'm a full time house wife with two young kids.

I have a degree in Reflexology, but haven't worked since passing the exam due to having my youngest.

My Husband and I are both in our 30's.

I have experience with horses, but nothing on paper,I was brought up with horses and used to horse sit for friends plus had my own horse before having the kids.

I'm a keen photographer by hobby, when I get the time.

The idea of an out side life style is very tempting.
