Guest methuselah
Anyone know the best route for a newly qualified electrician to emigrate here? His partner's a teacher; would it be best for them to use her occupation for a visa? What does an electrician need to do to satisfy Oz requirements? Thanks. Guest JAY&LOU
Hi there If you are still in the UK and have only just qualified you will have to use your wifes job as the main visa apllicant as to be recognised in Oz as a spark you need 6 years experience I think ( I may be wrong ) but that is what I was told from my agent. Or you may be able to get a sponsorship and when you are there try and apply for a permanent visa from the Oz end. If you still have any doubts then get in touch with an agent and see what they say. Make sure you use a reputable firm though as some people we have heard of have been ripped off. Good luck and if you need any more advice I will help if I can Jay
Guest leeob77
jay&lou is right, you need about 6 or 7 years post apprenticeship experience to apply for a skilled migrant visa. best to go on other halfs qualifications and get license either when you get there or start getting things in place from uk before you go. are you still in uk jay&lou ? im an electrician from wigan as well! just wondering where you are up to with visa / licensing etc, etc? cheers lee. Guest JAY&LOU
Hi Lee I have got all my artc forms here just need filling out and sending and have a mate in Perth whos address I can use. What is the PEER pack as I've not heard of that. When are you hoping to go? I know someone who has just done his Class A exam who says it isnt to bad. 15 multi choice questions and a practical but takes about 4 months to get on the course. Guest leeob77
going via peer is possibly the quickest route to getting an electrical license. as all states are licensed individually. basically to get a license for south australia you only need your artc and proof of passing a course on the australian wiring regs (which you do with peer - a training group). and you can then get your license. you can even do the course by distance learning from the uk and just do the exam once in oz (fly to adelaide for a day or two). you can get your results the same day and apply for license same day! then just transfer to the state you will be living in. i was going to just sit exams in perth (one practical and one theory) but didnt want to have to wait that long to get work. the peer course cost me abot £450 including all the books you need (regs, cable selections etc). ive heard the exam is dead easy too, if you get something wrong they tell you to have a look at it again! rather than failing you. you still have to pay for license application and to transfer but if you can get a license months earlier i think it is definately worth it. Guest JAY&LOU
Hi Lee I think I will have to look into that way as we have family in Adelaide so could crash out there for a couple of days. I will look for the PEER website and make some enquires. Thanks again Lee for the info, where are you ending up in Perth, we fancy Butler at the moment but my mate lives in Greenwood and hes trying to get us to closer to Perth. Cheers again Jay
Guest leeob77
the website doesnt have too much info to be honest. best to email them or give them a bell. we are hoping to get a rental in lesmurdie / kalamunda / forrestfield area as we have friends there but keeping an open mind to be honest till we can have a good look round. if you need any info on peer and licensing in sa send an email to lee@pearlwindows.co.uk . i have loads of info at work and even the contact details of someone at peer who sorted everything out for me. good luck. lee. Guest mike&lou
Anyone know the best route for a newly qualified electrician to emigrate here? His partner's a teacher; would it be best for them to use her occupation for a visa? What does an electrician need to do to satisfy Oz requirements? Thanks. Hi im a electrician and the experince needed now is not 7 yrs any more it has actually gone down, this i found out the other day,its now 3 yrs and it can also be your time served as a trainee/mate..didn believe it when i first heard but looks like it is so. The process you have to do is literally as has been said...jump through hoops, then do some more jumping.. First you have to send your paperwork away to get assesed whether you cane even apply, get the yes and you then apply to vetasses costs bout 400 quid..You go to a college somewhere in the uk where you prove your skills... then the wait if you pass this step 3 awiats and this is visa application,800 quid..8mnths later after police checks and medicals whala.. This sounds easy but its not,and its alot of stress and alot of paperwork, getting references is a pain in the.... The assesment is also dissicult, most of the stuff you do day in and day out,but when u in exam enviroment its unpleasant. Luckily im done with that now and im at the 3rd and final stage,if i can help with any queries bout wht to expect from vetasses pls ask..
