last piece of the puzzle

Everything fell into place, OH was successful in obtaining a sponsored visa and secured a job in one telephone interview from the UK. Within 6 weeks he was in Perth. 3 months later we joined him - June 2007. Children settled quickly into school and play, OH loves his job and I eventually got over the 'shock' of emigrating and started to enjoy the new work/life balance that we had emigrated for. During the time I took off, I requalified as my UK qualifications were not recognised, (Financial Services compliance) and having worked in senior roles in the UK for many years, was confident that it would not be long before I was working...

Nothing could have prepared me for the peaks and troughs that I have experienced looking for a job. Reaching third interview on several occasions and being turned down because of being overqualified or not having any australian experience.

Many times I apply for a role, follow it up and never hear again. Yes there are many roles advertised daily on seek, and other career websites - many are duplicates, same role different agencies, or the same role advertised time and time again. I have changed my tack and looked outside of financial services, at senior administration roles. Same responses, over qualified or worse you never hear back after interview, (where incidentally the interview does go well based on the initial feedback from the interviewer!). Now I am applying in the main directly to employers.

The one thing that you cannot bring with you is your network of industry and personal contacts. For me, looking for work in a foreign country is like looking for my first job.

This is the final piece of the puzzle for us. We chose to come to Perth for a better way of life for our family. It is working for my family, but for me it is becoming a nightmare...

Hi imgtag

So sorry to hear of your trouble getting a job:(. Think I'm gonna have the same problem. Don't think my OH will have any trouble getting work as his skill is in need, but as for me, well who knows. I am not qualified in much so really don't have any restrictions and would be willing to do just about anything if it helps the cause. I work as a cleaner at the mo and there seems to be 100's of jobs out there for cleaners but its not that easy ( as you already know ) I suppose it's a bit like here, it's not what you know it's who you know.

Sorry I am not of any help just wanted to wish you all the best and keep your chin up.;) You will find the job you want and it's their loss if they don't hire you, remember that.
