Guest domiteli
Hi, Just wondered if anyone could offer any advice on how to find companies which offer sponsorship in IT or (anything)? I know it is most likely that I will need to send off my CV but I'm not sure of how to find the companies to send to. I have read the agencies are not good until you are actually in the country so that is one option gone. Has anyone else gone down this route of finding sponsorship on 457 when they are not eligible for a skilled visa? I need another years worth of experience before applying but don't really want to wait due to the ages of the children. What experience did you have with the companies? How long did it take and did you have to change your CV a lot to meet Oz standards? Did you have telephone interviews or did you travel for the interviews? I am currently working in IT but do not specialise in any particular areas. Are there many IT jobs around apart from the highly skilled ones? Sorry for just firing off the questions but just want to get things started and not sure how to go about it. Thank you x
piccolo
Hi there, I don't know about the IT sector specifically but my OH works in engineering and we basically googled engineering companies in Perth and started looking at their websites, emailing them his CV, ringing them to follow up on the email. He eventually got a telephone interview and was offered the job/sponsorship at the end of the interview. So I would say you could try that, keep your CV concise, be persistent and don't give up!! Good luck!
Guest domiteli
Thanks piccolo, I'm guessing you spent months at it.. How long did it take from googling the companies to getting the actual job? Did your husband not qualify for the skilled visa with being in engineering? I best get working on my CV again, no matter how I change it, it still looks rubbish lol. I will keep at it (repeat in head x10) Thank you
The Rooney's
Hi Dimiteli, WE had to add to his cv Ausies love loads of info. we emailed and phoned loads of places and nothing................for a long time !!!!! Then out of the blue an agency emailed asking him to get in touch asap as a potential employer was looking to sponsor. Aparently perth has the highest rate of 457 due to every ocupation possible going to the mines they are having difficulty filling positions in the city/ surrounds. The money we got is not fantastic but enough for us to live on short term till i get a job. But I not going till jan. Its such a draining experience, and you wont think its worth it till you get that job, i cant tell you how many times i felt like throwing in the towel. I would go from being obsessed with the whole thing to not giving a s***. I felt like i was on uppers and downers lol !!! I wish you well and hope you get there asap . how old are your kids ? Guest domiteli
Sorry I just posted on the other thread lol... I can imagine how draining it can be. I am swinging from border line obsessive one day and nothing the next day. I keep writing out my CV then deleting it and starting again just going round in circles. I haven't even got around to send a copy out anywhere yet! I'm not really bothered what job I do as long as we have enough money to live on. The children are 8, 11, 14 so if we wait much longer we will ending up clashing with the GCSE's. I'm just finishing off my degree as well and I am supposed to be revising for my exams but keep distracted with it all. I know what I need to do now, get on and do it lol:smile: Thank you x
