Guest honkyhopkin
Hi , We keep debating whether to bring our dog to Perth or not . We are hoping to migrate in Jan 2009 ( applied for visa on-line Jan 2008). She is a chocolate lab ( 2 years old) absolutely lovely & mad !! I would appreciate any advice . I am a bit concerned that I will struggle to find quality rented accomodation ( with a pool ), that will take a dog in Perth . I am in the process of selling my house in the UK and am having difficulty finding rental property where we currently live that will take a dog . I would appreciate any advice , based on your experiences.
Guest debbie.rn
hi there we are also in the same situation. we have sold our house in UK and visa not through yet..the only rental we could get here to take the dog is AWFUL!! and the thought of spending £4,500 to ship her (shes a big german shepard) then not finding a rental with her i feel is putting us to a disadvantage from the start! but then i look at her and feel really really guilty...so i dont know what to do. my head says no but my heart says yes i think my head will win on this one good luck with whatever you decide debbie
Guest honkyhopkin
Hi Debbie, Thanks for your note . She is a big part of the family , but at the end of the day she is a dog . I guess it would be too much of a gamble with finding good quality accomodation in Oz. I have promised the kids that we will rent a nice house in Oz ( not a large kennel !). Also , we may be a bit restricted if we want to go and explore on weekends . It is a tough decision to make - I will keep you posted. ali
We brought our cat and got a nice rental but without a pool. You do have to pay a pet bond and ensure that the house is cleaned when you vacate. If you do decide to bring your dog - Byford quarantine station isn't very large and therefore gets booked up quite quickly, when we first enquired the first available place was 4 months later (which luckily fitted into our plans). The Frets
Hi We had 2 dogs in England, and didn't bring either, the oldest one is 11 and my mum and dad in law kept him, the younger one is 2 and we found a really nice home for him he's being well looked after, better than we could've done too. I wanted to bring both of them but my husband said it was gonig to cost way too much money and the whole thing was costing enough as it was. It's a very difficult decision to make, but if you know they're going to be well cared for in England with whoever you decide to leave them with, its easier. In our case we know who their with and can keep in touch. All the best with everything Jane:D
Guest mackemsok
hi therewe are also in the same situation. we have sold our house in UK and visa not through yet..the only rental we could get here to take the dog is AWFUL!! and the thought of spending £4,500 to ship her (shes a big german shepard) then not finding a rental with her i feel is putting us to a disadvantage from the start! but then i look at her and feel really really guilty...so i dont know what to do. my head says no but my heart says yes i think my head will win on this one good luck with whatever you decide debbie HI Debbie and all, Yip - we are in the same boat too - we have 2 border terriers, 2 and 1 years old. We love them dearly and can't bear to be without them even for a week holiday so we will not cope without them out there. We decided that we will take them with us - even though we know it will cost us quite a bit and it will be extra stress with the extra paperwork - but the upheavil for us from one country to another is allot to take on without losing our family pets too. I want the kids to settle and thought if we had our pets with us it will make it easier for us all. Some people think we are mad but we bought them to add to our family and love them so much. I know it is such a hard decision and I don't want to sway you either way - but just wanted to tell you how I was feeling about the situation Regards Sharon
ali
Sharon - that was one of the reasons we brought our Cat - who is now about 18 (I always get her age confused lol). My daughter's first thought when we talked about Australia was "what about Becky" - we told her that we would get advise from the vet first and if she couldn't come with us then her grandma would look after her. The vet said that she was fit and healthy, her age didn't matter and there was no reason she couldn't make the trip to Aus. Looking back ... it was the best decision we made for us (won't be for everyone), My daughter would have been distraught leaving her behind and it made that first month bareable for her knowing that Becky was coming home to her. I know that my hubbys parents would have taken good care of her, but I'd have been forever waiting for the phone call telling us that she'd died - it would have been awful. As my hubby said - we'd had her longer than the kids lol Ali
Malcs66
hi The Frets, how long have you been in Kinross for? We live just off Kinross Drive, Marmion end. We bought our dog as we thought it would help our daughter settle and it's certainly helped. Yes you will struggle to find a rental but you will find one. Even if you have to offer more money up front. I would advise to book as long as you can afford in a holiday rental, especially while your dog is in quarantine to give you time to look for somewhere. We were running out of time and got a little tense! But we did find somewhere in the end. Like Ali said, Byford does get booked up quick. Best of luck, Malcs
The Frets
Hi Malc, Sorry not been on here for awhile, we live on Glencoe Loop, Callender Ave side. We've been in Kinross nearly as long as we've been in Perth. We arrived on Dec 3rd 2007, moved in to a rental, om Whim Court, after 2 weeks in hol let, and bought our own home in July. How are liking it here? And have you settled? How long you been here? All the best Jane
Malcs66
Hi Jane, we arrived mid january '08. Yep we are enjoying life here. Few hiccups here and there along the way, mainly regarding the kids. Son (16) wanted everything straight away, job, car and mates to hang around with. Daughter (13) usual thing, missing her friends. But things have settled down now. Looking forward to the summer now and those BBQ and beers. All the best Malcs
