Guest zebbedy
Hi everyone, Just thought I would put my 2 penny worth in. We move from the UK to NZ in 2005. All we hear on the news is the amount of kiwi's moving to Oz. Is it really that big a temptation? What do you like about it in Perth? I have to admit that we are considering the move. Like everywhere else in the world, fuel prices are going up which has the knock on effect of food prices, utilities, housing etc etc all going up. Here in NZ we bought a diesel car 2 years ago. We paid around 90 cents per litre for fuel. Now its $1.91!!!!!!!!!!!! The grass is always greener on the other side. NZ is a wonderful and beautiful country but with so many people moving from here to Aussie there must be more on offer there. Wages are supposedly higher but how's that compare to the cost of living? I explain to people here........The average tradesman in NZ earns around $24 (give or take). A pint of beer costs about $6 in the pub. For an hours wage I can have 4 pints of beer. In the UK an average tradesman earns £20 (give or take). A pint of beer in the pub £2.50. That's 8 pints of beer verses 4 in NZ!!!! A litre of unleaded in NZ is $2.20. For my hours wage I get 11 litres (ish). In the UK I get over 16 litres. How does it compare in Perth? Not a particularly scientific way of assessing the cost of living I know but just a comparisson. Way of life and standard of living have a value over and above any price comparison I can think of in the UK (although the NHS is something I miss even though it it used and obused by every other nation camping out in the UK....A different story I know!) Moving to Perth is something we are strongly considering. Heaps of worthy Brits there, good weather and somewhere we feel we would fit in well. Is the cost of living in Perth too expensive? Do you have money left over at the end of the week/month? What do you like best about Perth? Hope to meet up with some of you soon. Enjoy the weather and think of us dodging the snow, wind, rain and sun!

If its quality of life you want stay put, I am in construction and I work harder and longer here than I did in the UK, and believe it or not spend more time stuck in traffic. NZ is stunning, WA isn't anything by comparison. It sounds like I hate it here, but I don't, i nearly went to NZ and have a soft spot for it. You can PM if you like and I will tell you more of what I have found.
