Hi, my wife & I are moving to Perth end August/early September, along with 2 kids, 7 & 13 months. We are currently reading every bit of info we can about areas, and are starting to shortlist suburbs etc.

We are keen to settle in 1 area, & stay there, to save moving schools etc.

Does anyone currently live in either Melville or Daniella, these are the 2 on the shortlist at the moment?

Can anyone advise what the schools are like? Public transport? Are they good community based areas?

I am going to be based in the CBD, and will initially be using public transport, how easy is the commute?

Any advise greatfully received.

Perth here we come,

Rob

I Rob, I live in Leeming which is part of Melville City. Personally, I think the suburbs of Melville are all nice, with good transport/amenities. In Leeming, we are 15 min drive to the city (not in rush hour!! lol), but Murdoch station is not far away and this takes you into the city in 10 mins. We're 20 mins from Freo.

There is a big shopping centre in Booragoon (Garden City) that is easily reached, there are 3 shopping malls (which have supermarkets and e.g. Target or K mart), within 10 mins, cinema, 2 recreation centres at Leeming and South Lake).

Have a look on http://www.aussiemove.com at some of the suburbs - it also gives you average house prices and links to schools. That site does give leeming as part of Cockburn though, which is wrong as it's Melville.

Schools in the area both state and private have good reputations.

Within Melville City you have the suburbs of Leeming, Bull Creek, Bateman, Murdoch, Kardinya, Winthrop, Brentwood, Booragoon, Alfred Cove, Willagee, Ardross, Mt. Pleasant, Applecross, Attadale, Bicton, Palmyra, and Melville,

Good luck with the move

Hi Rob,

I suggest you stay close to the train line as this makes it so easy to commute to the city. North or the River and close to the beach is my preference but everyone is different. Dianella is an older area with 1970 style homes. Maybe if you prefer new you should look at surburbs a bit further out. The train will only take 30 minutes to get to the city in the mornings.

Cheers

Ali,

Many thanks for the info & the link. Obviously the choice of schools is a big driver in the choice of locations. I'm definitely leaning towards Melville area at the moment.

Is there much of a social network in the area, mother & toddler groups etc? I'm pretty much starting work when I land, so will straight away meet work colleagues, but we are keen to meet people who aren't attached to work, mainly for my wife's benefit!!

Cheers,

Rob
